| Rant: When Good Anime Fans Go Bad... | ||||||||
| Home | ||||||||
| Okay, all you anime fans out there. You. Yes, you! Why in the world is there so much bickering going on here??? I swear, if I see one more "anyone who watches dubs sucks" or "______ should die because __________, and I don't care if he/she is your favorite character, that just means you're a moron" page, I'm going to puke. I don't have a problem with people disliking dubs; I do! Unfortunately, for some of us, Cartoon Network is the only way to get anything even remotely resembling anime. There are no anime stores where I live (unless I want to drive for three hours), I know no one in real life who watches anime, and I don't have any money to pay for it with, anyway, so I can't even order on-line. Whenever I get the chance, I grab what I can get, but the plain and simple fact is that there's not much to grab. (I did find some subbed episodes of Rayearth at the local used bookstore last week, though, and that was a very cool day. ^_^) There's even some stuff, like Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, and now Inu-Yasha, that they're treating with a great deal of respect. Every show they dub is getting a little bit better, and I for one think that we need to cut them some slack. (After all, no matter how bad some of their dubs have been in the past, at least they've never done anything approaching what Nelvana did to Card Captor Sakura. That's the one dub that I really do hate; it's criminal to even pretend that Cardcaptors is the same show.) As far as ripping on characters goes, stop. Do it with your friends, do it in your journal, even do it on an honest-to-goodness humor site (such as the Chibi Project), but quit taking it so seriously!!! Okay, so what Relena does could be considered stalking, and maybe she's not up to par with your idea of what her character should be. Maybe you hate her with every fiber of your being. Go for it. Just don't make the rest of us read it. If, contrary to all logic, you decide to go ahead and do it anyway, you will recieve one of the following reactions: 1. Flames. Some people seem to get some sort of sick satisfaction out of getting flamed, but most people I know don't really enjoy getting sworn at by a total stranger. Flames can also lead to messy lawsuits, and that's nobody's idea of a good time (except maybe your lawyer's...). 2. Avoidance. If a six-paragraph rant about why a certain character sucks is the first thing I see on a page, I can pretty much guarantee I'll never go back to that site again. 3. Admittance to the nearest assylum. If your non-anime-fan friends and family find out that you are spending your time and money on an Internet campaign against someone who doesn't even exist, you should at least expect an intervention, if not more. 4. Being called a booger or a doodyhead. After all, one childish insult deserves another. In the end, I can't stop you from putting crap on your page (it's not like there isn't any on mine), BUT FOR GOODNESS' SAKE, PEOPLE, RUN A SPELLCHECK ONCE IN A WHILE!!! |
