"We are summoned to pass in through
nature,
into that splendour which she fitfully reflects."
--C. S. Lewis.
It took a while for me to understand
The shape of anything. I had
supposed
The mountain to be rippling; and
it hurt,
It irked my intuition. So
I closed
My eyes, to see a solemn, certain
land,
Where all the earth was steady,
every rock
Remembered who it was, and knew
its place;
The trees grew upwards, never side
to side.
Recalling then that true, unswerving
space,
I opened up my eyes -- and with
a shock,
I realized that the water's face
had lied,
But time had caused the ripples
to subside;
And one day, to our final satisfaction,
We'll gaze upon the world without
reflection.
