The sonnet is favorable because it presents a condensed piece of art:
About 40 secs
Spencer- about 25-30 secs
*Blank verse- unrhymed iambic pentameter more choices, more simultaneous
*Spencerian-What do you gain? Better flow because it is a greater connection;
always tension between art and content.

Propaganda effect:
Art should impel us to act by showing the real state of affairs through a dialectic.
Art should be political?
Politic Art:
That which brings to mind the political things of the world.
(Which art should do.)
Question: Would a Marxist look at an orange as a political statement?
Argument about oranges:
Mexican laborers supporting a Capitalist society,
are we supporting it by eating oranges?
California bills are being passed about illegal immigrants
So is or is not an orange a political thing?
If we can find politics in a work of art then,
we can say it is a political statement.
Art makes us aware and could cause us to act.
Is Fairy Queen a document of propaganda? Political? What is it asking?
Spencer:
Showing where the flaws of human being lye in the Fairy Queen
Allegorically he says the world is full of sin and we can get rid
of them if we live virtuously and guided by truth,
then all of our world will be better.
Possiblities:
1. The evolution of a good society (Bill) (Spencer)
2. The revolution of a bad society
These are two ways of looking at the world.
Spencer sees a good Queen England we have to weed out problems to be better people.
Says something different problems are inherited into the system

Wants to imagine employer/employee to rationally determine what a good split
