Later that evening as Elaine prepared for her date with Dion,
she thought about her and Dawn's friendship.
"How did we get to this point?" she thought to herself.
" Dawn and I have been best friends for so long. How did
we start fighting about something so silly? Dawn is just being
old fashioned. Anyway, I can't let a boy destroy our friendship.
I'm going call Dawn after my date tonight. I'm sure she'll realize
that Dion is not as bad as she thinks."
After she had made her decision about what to do about her friendship with Dawn, Elaine calmly went on getting dressed for her date with Dion
"Bye Mommy," she called with more than a twinge of guilt as she ran out of the door when she heard Dion's horn.
Meanwhile, later that evening at home, Dawn told her mother
about her troubles with Elaine.
"It's so hard not to say anything Mommy," she confided
in her mother. "And every time I do say something it just
makes Lainie even angrier."
"Well Dawn," her mother replied, "as hard as it is to keep quiet, sometimes we have to just pray and leave it up to God. Would you like me to pray with you?"
"Would you please Mom?" Dawn whispered tearfully.
Dawn and her mother said a simple prayer for Elaine and then Dawn went to bed.
Dawn woke up early the next morning feeling happy and refreshed
for the first time in a long time.
"I'm not going to worry about Lainie", she thought.
"It's in God's hands now. She reached over to turn on her
radio. "I think I'll see what's going on in Grand Bahama,"
she thought turning to ZNS.
"Mommy!" Dawn screamed fearfully as she caught the
tail end of the news announcer's shocking statement.
"
the driver of the vehicle, seventeen years old, Dion
Martin, captain of the basketball team at Hawksbill High School,
