Just who is Samantha Cooper? Samantha Cooper is seventeen, going on eighteen. She is a self described, lovable, friendly, very respectable, Christian, young lady. Samantha's hobbies includes, drawing, painting and playing her keyboard. Some of her paintings were featured in her school's art show last year.
One of Samantha's goals is to be a role model for other young
people. "I don't believe that we are a fallen generation",
she said. We have a lot of intelligent, talented young people.
So I try to do positive things so that other young people can
learn from my example. Samantha's role model is her mother
whom she refers to as "my treasure".
Samantha graduated in 1999 from Jack Hayward High with 18 Certificates
and 7 plaques. Included was the Vice Principal's award for Academic
Achievement. (Way to go girl!)
An honor roll student from primary school upward, Samantha has
just began her second semester at College of the Bahamas where
she continues to do well.
How is college different from High School? I wanted to
know
Well, the work is more demanding and college lecturers don't
"run" behind you for work. If you don't submit the work
you simply get a failing grade. You have to know how to manage
your time wisely or you get caught. Time doesn't wait for any
man. I learned that the hard way", she laughed.
Do you ever feel like giving up? I asked curiously. "Oh
yes! She replied.
How do you motivate yourself in those times? I turn
to my bible and I go to church a lot. Also she continued,
I call home and talk to my parents. My dad usually tells me
about his experiences and how he often felt like giving up. He
also tells me that this is what I want so I have to deal with
what comes along with it.
Is Christ very important to you? I asked. Very important!
was the emphatic reply. Without Christ in my life I don't think
I would have been a success. I would not have high goals in life
or high standards. I would not be such a ladylike person and my
parents would not be able to hold their heads high when they walk
through the streets.
What contributed to you becoming the person you are today?
"My parents kept pushing me. Also I always wanted to be
a doctor so I knew what I needed to do to keep my dream alive
and succeed in life."
What advice do you have for young ladies who may not have defined
goals? Give your life to Christ. Take what He has to offer.
Also spend time with
yourself trying to find out what you want to do and what your
heart's desire is. Trust and believe in Him and he will direct
your path.
