Focused, goal oriented, determined . These are only a few adjectives that can describe this issue's spotlight teen. Raquel Higgs is 14 years old (she'll be celebrating her 15th birthday in a few weeks), eleventh grader at Freeport Anglican High School Raquel enjoys reading, writing poetry and surfing the net (click here to find an example of her talents as a poet ) Currently, at school, Raquel is a part of the Anchor Club, a community service club, which as one of it's projects delivers food to older residents in the community. She is also the Secretary of the Youth's Department of her church where she gets an opportunity to put her talents as a future Accountant to work as she has the responsibility of keeping records of the funds collected and spent.
B.M. What are your plans for the future?
R.H. When I graduate from Freeport High, I plan to go to
college to study Accounting. Ever since I first went to high school
my dream has been to become an Accountant. I will do
everything in my power to make that dream come true.
B.M. What keeps you focused on your goals?
R.H. I always try to do my best because I want to set an
example for my younger sisters to follow. Also my parents are
proud of me and I don't ever want to let them down.
B.M. Have you ever read a book or listened to a song that really inspired you?
R.H. I once read a novel called Finding Your Self Esteem. It caused me to realize the importance of having a high self-esteem. I realize that if you think highly of yourself you'll believe you can do anything.
B.M. What advice would you give to other young ladies?
R.H. Stay focused on your education. Try to achieve your
goals and don't let anything get in your way. Also don't lose
sight of what's really important in life.
