T he mantle place in the Lewis's living room is the resting
place for numerous trophies, medals and awards, all testimonials
to this issue's Spotlight Teen's success in athletics and academics.
She won her first trophy in sports in grade five and hasn't stopped
since.
Cindy Lewis is a hardworking, dedicated
and disciplined athlete and student. This fourteen year old is
currently in the tenth grade at Jack Hayward High School. Proving
that one doesn't have to sacrifice good grades to be active in
extra curricular activities Cindy manages to maintain a 3.0 G.P.A
while winning trophy after trophy in track and field events.
"I got a 3:11g.p.a last term," she said "I
didn't do as well as I would have liked, I plan to go higher this
year."
According to Cindy she does well academically because she does
not allow sports to interfere with her schoolwork.
If I have to skip school for track, she said, I always
get the work that I missed from someone and try to make it up.
Cindy enjoys relaxing with a good book, meeting new people and
writing poetry (maybe she'll share one with us soonJ). Her plans
for the future includes a career in both teaching and acting.
Although Cindy has many trophies and awards, in academics and
sports, the one that means most to her is the Vice Principal's
Award she received in grade six.
This talented teen says that the reason she is such a grounded
young lady is because " I listen to my family. They
always tell me what's right and wrong. I also try to learn from
other people's mistake and I think about things before I do it.
Cindy's advice for other young ladies is:
Stick to the things that you really like. Don't change because
of friends. Also whatever you do make sure that you have a good
education.
