Spotlight on Bonita Rigby

by B. McIntosh

I am beautiful on the inside and outside, honest, helpful and very confident but also a little shy.  This is how Bonita, this issue’s extremely intelligent teen describes herself.

Bonita Rigby a pleasant young lady with a beautiful smile, at age 13 is Girl Talk’s youngest Spotlight Teen. In fact she barely made the age criteria for Girl Talk.

Bonita is a ninth grader at Sunland Baptist Academy where she is not only an honour roll student but an athlete as well.  She is involved with Track & Field, which she would like to pursue further in the future, she also likes to play and volleyball.

This musically inclined teen enjoys listening to all types of music but favors gospel rap, R&B and hip-hop.  She also enjoys watching comedies and action movies.

With her future goal of being a doctor in mind Bonita places much emphasis on education.  She is careful not to let her extra curricular activities interfere with her schoolwork.  She recognizes that in order to achieve her goal she must stay focused and keep her grades up.  Even at the young age of thirteen she recognizes that a good education will help her to succeed in life.

In her quest to realize her dream Bonita is actually a little ahead of her game.  In fact she has been doing so well that she has already taken some of her ninth grade exams last year in eighth grade.  She took four B.J.C’s (Bahamas Junior Certificates) which she passed with three A’s and one B, and two Pitman exams, both of which she passed, one with a first class pass and one with  pass.

Bonita has also taken Music Grade 1 Theory, which she passed with distinction.  She is currently studying for Music Theory Grade 2 exam. She has also received ten achievement awards for her outstanding accomplishments in eighth grade. .

This inspiring teen credits her parents for motivating and inspiring her.  She says they are always there for her, pushing her to do better in school and reminding her of her dreams for the future so that she won’t allow them to fade or be distracted from them.  Her advice to other young ladies is, “believe in God, because without him we would not be here, listen to your parents and teachers and finally, do well in school.”

Bonita, this issue’s Spotlight Teen was recommended by Ms. Cheryl Forbes, a member of her church.  If you think that you, or someone you know, would make a good Spotlight Teen do drop me a line. P.O. Box F-43929, Freeport Bahamas or email [email protected]
