Hi Sweetie, how was your first day of school?" Mandie's mother asked as she jumped into the car. Eleven year old Mandie had been excited that morning as she left for her first day as a seventh grader in her new school.
"Okay I guess," Mandie said as her mom asked again. "Just okay?" Her mom asked. "But you were so excited this morning."
"That was before I realized my best friend wouldn't be in my class, the campus would be so big I wouldn't be able to find my class and as a seventh grader I would be just like the first graders at my old school "
For many of you young ladies, back to school may be something to look forward to. This is because you're most likely, going back to something familiar. All of your friends are there, you've made a niche for yourself, and you're in your element, so to speak. However for some younger girls back to school is a scary experience. They are coming from a school where the student population is much smaller and they know almost everyone. Also they are no longer dealing with one or two teachers but a different teacher for each subject. All of these things can add up to a terrifying experience.
Hence I call on you older ladies to make the transition easier for those young girls just starting high school. Think back to when you were in seventh or eighth grade, how was it for you? Were you frightened? Did you feel as if you didn't fit in? Well if you did I'm sure you don't want anyone else to feel that way. Therefore here are just two simple things you can do to make life easier for someone.
-adopt (befriend) a seventh grader -
become a big sister to a seventh grader. Show her around the
campus, have lunch with her once in a while.
Assist with schoolwork,
seventh graders may have a little difficulty adjusting to the
higher level of work. Let her know you're there if she needs
help.
If you would take the time out to do these things you would be making life much easer for someone else. You'll also be living up to Girl Talk's motto - reaching, challenging and inspiring young ladies . Let me know how it goes.
