We met up with our friends (from Vancouver, London & Montreal) in Montreal
to celebrate New Year's.
We all stayed in a rented apartment at the
Petite Auberge near Old Montreal.

We had a great time New Year's Eve as we celebrated with a big fondue dinner,
a pinata smashing, and a
gingerbread house making & smashing.

Chris,  Rob,  John,  Cam & Rod
We had a huge snowfall while we were there.  Here's John trying to dig his car out from the couple of feet of fresh overnight snow.
Below is the famous Schwartz's deli where there is always a line-up to get in.  The reason: they serve the best smoked meat sandwiches in all of Montreal, not to mention great fries and the juiciest dill pickles!
It was quite amazing that the entire counter cleared just as we made it to the front of the line!
We went ice-skating at the outdoor
rink at the Old Montreal Pier.  It was quite magical skating outside under the stars with the snow falling and
the lights of Old Montreal twinkling
in the background.  And somehow it wasn't even very cold.  Another definite 'must' if you're in Montreal.
The boys attempting to 'smash'
the pinata.  Needless to say, it took more than a few tries.

Below: A selection of Catherine's
usual Christmas baking.
While in Montreal, we also visited Catherine's old neighbourhood where she grew up from when she was 5 to 12 years old.  Here we are with her former next door neighbour, Joan Mallory, who still lives in the same house.  Joan is like a 3rd grandmother to Catherine and flew out to Vancouver to be at the wedding.  She just celebrated her 90th birthday this past July!
After Montreal, we flew to Sault Ste Marie, where Catherine's Dad's side of the family live.
Dinner with Grandpa & Grandma, Uncle Morley, Aunt Wendy, Uncle Lloyd & cousin Greg.
