November 2002

November 24, 2002:
I haven't written in a while. The end of the semester's coming up fast now, and I have a lot to do like high school teachers crammed everything into the last few weeks of school. Amazing how much time flies by before you realize it's gone. I've been reading over entries from the past couple of months, and I don't believe I'll ever understand how everything can turn around so quickly. Brian's one of my closest friends here at KU. Last weekend, he even invited myself, Megan, and Jamie to spend the weekend at his place about two hours away. The trip didn't work out because we had conflicts with transportation, but we'll have to make plans over winter break. And I've also met a few more people by now. A lot of us even have nicknames. They call me Pippi. We all eat dinner together almost every night and have to push a few tables together in the cafeteria to accomodate our big group. We knock on each other's doors to procrastinate when we're feeling lazy (and the person we're bugging is usually happy to get a break, too). We bug each other for laundry money. Well, a couple of them bug me for money, anyway. My grades are okay. I'm taking five courses at 15 credits total, and I have two "A"s, two "B"s, and an unknown. The fundamentals of speech professor I have grades as we go along, so I don't have all of my scores yet. But I'm sure I'm doing okay, so I'm not worried. I need 32 credits to be considered a sophomore next fall, so I'm taking 18 credits in spring. I registered for courses for the spring semester, but I didn't take a math course, and I need two before 48 credits. I decided to take a math course over winter break and the second next fall. I also need to pass the Praxis I tests for reading, writing, and math before 48 credits, and I'm taking the tests in March or April. I dislike standardized testing. But what can I do? I'm required to pass the Praxis tests to teach. When I come back next fall, I should have 36 credits and will have passed the Praxis I tests. I'll change my major officially from elementary education/early childhood education to secondary education/English. *whew* I feel like I'm truly accomplishing something for the first time in my life. The roomies and I even decorated in here with a bunch of those paper cutout snowflakes hung from the ceiling with white thread. I'm living in a winter wonderland! We are great friends and have such a blast! I'm going to miss Abby and Alex over winter break! I'm excited about college all over again! I hope whoever said I'd get a taste of the "real world" here was right because it tastes so sweet! I can't wait to go home over Thanksgiving break, too! I haven't been home in, like, a month! I'm finally finding a friend in my little brother, and I miss my friends from high school! I so want to throw a Christmas party again this year! Who's with me? I'll invite a few people, plan a secret Santa, check out some tunes and flicks, throw in a pool table, darts, some junk food and VOILA!...a Christmas party full of friends, fun, and memories. Well, I have class for three more days, so I'm going to get some sleep. I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving! Only 18 days until winter break!
