Personality: 
Jacob, at his best, is a wonderful man. He loves and honors his parents, holds doors open for strangers, comforts lost children, takes in stray dogs, and greets everyone with a smile. He is playful, confident, and viciously protective of his loved ones. He likes football, motorcycles, but isn't afraid to cook, sew, or watch chick flicks.

At his worst, Jacob can be jaded, unemotional, and defensive. Jake has a deep-seated self-destructive streak and will take needless risks or start fights 'just because', without concern for the outcome. He has a highly addictive personality and tends to do most everything in excess.

Powers: 
Jacob is a powerful empath, granting him the basic abilities to sense and manipulate emotion. This gives him a hightened awareness of those around him. Being as powerful as he is, Jake holds some extra skills. Jacob can attach strong emotional influences to verbal statements or suggestions, thusly increasing the likelihood that people will do what he wants. He has a few other empathic feats that increase in difficulty, such as emotional transfers, where he can remove the emotions attached to an object or event from one person by absorbing them into himself.

Limits: 
Jake's empathy is most effective on humans and metas without psionic capabilities. Psionics are still affected to a slightly lesser level and naturally, a psion stronger than him might not be noticably affected. Jake still lacks much formal training, and therefore overusing even his most basic abilities can still result in nosebleeds, minor brain damage, and blackouts. The more advanced feats such as emotion transfer are severely draining and often leave him in a weakened state for hours afterwards. Doing something that intense more than once a week would be nearly impossible.

History: 
Jake grew up fairly normal, considering. As a young child, when Nathalie was born, his parents told him about the importance of being a good big brother. About how he'd have to look out for Nathalie and help take care of her. He seemed...unusually interested in his, and 'practiced' by playing big brother to Angel and Adrian in preparation for his little sister's birth. The older he got, the more seriously he took his duties. When his mom was outside with the horses and the other adults were gone, Jake was undeniably in charge of everyone. He learned how to cook and clean, and other domestic matters at a young age to help pick up the slack in his family of three busy adults and three little kids

Jr. High and High school brought on issues, though. Jacob was often in trouble for fighting. It was rare that he started fights...simply finished that bullies started with 'his kids'. These incidents dropped by more than half when Adrian was finally pulled from public school. Any date who came to the door of their home would be met and interrogated...er...chatted with, by Jake. He did on several occasions turn people away, regardless of how much yelling resulted from either the rejected party or his own family. Jake appeared to be a model son. He brought in good grades, was captain and quarterback of the varsity football team in high school, and was never dateless for any event..trouble was stirring. The instabilities of his own family were taking a toll on him.

Rather than risk letting his family down and giving them one more thing to worry about, Jake continued to play the 'good son'. But behind their backs, a drinking and drug problem soon developed. These issues were only compounded after his mother's death when he was sixteen. Jake continued with his act. Continued to care for his family, but he was nearly devoid of personal emotion, aside from hollow displays. During this time, he also developed a short-lived but very passionate and close relationship with his best friend, Isaac. He kept it secret from everyone..having a gay son would be another let down, after all. Shortly after his 18th birthday, Jake said some very unofficial goodbyes to friends and family before he strapped some possessions to his Harley-Davidson and rode off into the sunset.

In the eight years following, his contact with his family had been very limited. Holidays and birthdays would get a letter, occasionally a phone call. He never provided anyone an address or phone number, since he didn't want to be followed and was seldom in the same place for more than a few months. After family members caught up with him in DC, Jake sold most of his things and was once again on the road...until he met a certain canine in New Orleans...Tobias pulled Jacob back to DC, and over time, an actual loving (but probably not healthy and by no means normal) relationship developed.

Since then, Jake suffered the loss of his dear friend Adrian and his step-father Etienne. He's dealt with the ressurrection and reappearance of his mother. He had a mental breakdown induced by his vengeful half-sister Anita. And, he married the man he loves despite all common sense and protest. Jake now lives in a lovely flat in DC with his husband Tobias, and their new puppy Harley.
