It started 14 years ago, on July 31st, when James and Lilly Potter gave birth to their first and only child, a boy named Harry. Shortly after young Harry was born, an evil and powerful wizard, Lord Voldemort, came to the Potter's house to murder the family. Lord Voldemort used the most deadly and unforgivable curse, the Avada Kedavra curse, to murder Harry's mother and father. When he tried to use the curse on Harry, something caused it to rebound back on the evil wizard causing him to lose his power and body. Baby Harry was a hero in the wizarding community. He was the child who defeated the evil Lord Voldemort (He who must not be named). Harry was taken to his only family left alive, the muggle family of Vernon Dursley. The Dursley's raised Harry but they did not like him, they treated him as an outcast, as a slave, and they never told him of his parents or that he was a wizard.
Ten years later, Harry received a letter from Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Thus starts Harry's journey into the magical world. These next few pages will help teach the rest of you muggles a little bit about Hogwarts and the wizarding community. You will learn about the different houses in Hogwarts, types of classes, magical spells and about the students and teachers associated with Harry. You will even discover the joys of the major sport of the wizarding community, Quidditch.
