HALBERD A form of pole axe, this weapon usually reaches 8 feet in length. The head is set at an angle where the blade is most likely to impact upon an enemy. It is designed to deliver a thrusting attack, but is useless against mounted knights armed with lances. However, Barcos was quite adept at using his halberd to unhorse riders armed with much shorter weapons, such as a sword. He would do so by using the opposing spike, which is capable of piercing armour. |

CROSSBOW There are two types of crossbows, as determined by size and weight. The light crossbow is made of wood and can be used with one hand (with practice and skill!). Two hands are needed for the heavy crossbow, which has metal limbs. The heavy crossbow is slower, but delivers a more deadly blow. The crossbow is a particularly useful weapon for penetrating armour. |
