Pigeon

Sure, you've seen this bird before. But he's no rock dove, he's an ordinary, everyday pigeon, right? Sort of.... "Rock dove" is a fancy name for the urban bird we know as a pigeon. And though they are common in Europe, North Africa, southwestern Asia and North, South and Central Americas, pigeons have some pretty uncommon characteristics.

While most baby birds eat worms and grubs regurgitated by the adults, pigeon parents feed hatchlings crop milk, a high-protein, high-fat food produced in their throats. Crop milk is very similar to the milk of mammals--a group of animals including cows, bears, whales and, of course, humans. br>
