| A few months before Ghost, and even the start of Kinky Magnets I had this dream about Ryan Adams. That was the inspiration for the song. Not that it has anything to do with Ryan Adams, neither as an homage, or anything. Simply in the dream that was a song by this songwriter we (as Magnets) all admire. It was supposed to be a melancholic song about moving, about playing piano in an empty room, after they came taking furniture away. It's about the ghosts of sounds and feelings that become attached to certain places. You can still feel the vibrations after years and years. |

| and well did you try the harpischord or whatever for roses? yes harpsichord not good... so just piano and jelly? and feedbacky feedback staticly static? glockenspiel? did you have that on the keys? yup. yes vibes was okay. i guess it would do. similar kinda thing. i so love vibes actually i was thinking about buying real vibes a little one. you see i love the song so much i would hate to 'over do it' . is dumb because i have to blast the song and sing along and record again because i can't do real overdubs . yeah i can see what you mean with over doing it. but well it's 2 or 3 instruments really not like the whole orchestra. well sometimes i think i'm of a minimalistic kinda guy i like to hear everything. less is more sometimes. well there are reocord where they used lots of stuff and came back (??) good. think pneumonia. pneumonia is the 'perfect' album .that's why i was thinking of putting more stuff than we usually do. i love you LOL. i find it so good too. but heartbreaker is the perfect album , well pneumonia too, is one of them PERFECT albums. YES. raw and polished at the same time. it doesn't spill. there's a lot but it's never too much because everything fits so perfectly that it has to be there and it doesn't seem overdone (*then the magnets listen romantically to the aformentioned whiskeytown record together. well together, in synch, despite being in two different countries*) yup okay roses is the most complicated . we have me voice/harmony/guitar right then the jellycaster and some calliopesque keyboards thingie i guess. calliopesque??? like a calliope or some other weird instrument or well what was the other? the other instrument you thought about . i remembered the calliope i don't know why. maybe you don't have it on your organ. hmm. hmm well what do you have on your keyboard? hang on. piano. oh yes that too. just piano and jelly then? sum electric crappy pianos not very good, harpsichord. clavinova. celeste. well wait the piano has to be there. vibes. celesta is the tinkling one maybe it will be allright loads of different organs hang on i'll record a few different sounds. (*the male magnet sends a weird file to the female magnet through MSN*) that's not all the sounds. shit i just realised i forgot the strings. no no well i just needed the ones that fit you know. no strings, guitar, ukulele just random keyboardesque stuff and vibes yummy. i like the vibes always reminds more 'stars go blue'. i like them xylophone marimba that kind of stuff . tinkling tinkly kinky. plinky plonky. plinly plonky porno. LOL. no. too folky. too churchy. this one is scary. better. hmm that's good. harpischord? yup. well the one before the harpsichord what was that? it wasn't bad. clavi. do you have the glockenspiel? like in stevie wonder's 'superstion' . there's a xylophone a marimba. well i was thinking that would maybe make it glockenspiel and if you don't have it vibes and if you don't have vibes then...lots of things that you hit with things. yes vibes were on the list so can you do the glocken if you have it xylophone marimba and vibes please? it's match between those in my mind . but if you're thinking better tell me. i wonder too tinkly and not breathing? the tinkly plonk is already done by the piano so we need something that breathes more? like a chamberlain or something? what's better more tinkling or more breathing? hmm. hmm. maybe the whole atmospheric echo thing i put will take care of the breathy part . chamberlain is nice. cos this song is about tinkling and breathing so we have to balance the two. ok i just recorded something with chamber vibes and piano. all together? yup (the male magnet sends a weird 'plinky piano vibey chamber thingy' file to the female magnet*) that's it! i think we're there. well we have to see how's with the song itself and the jellycaster but that sums it up i believe . did we figure out what to use on roses? i know we said piano. yup. that's for sure. and jellycaster. and the 3rd instrument was? maybe tinkly plinkly thingys as well . roses? jellycaster? oh just jelly first bit was shit i need to just do that. jelly? keys? yes keys done, but still on recorder not on pc yet |
