In addition to streetlights along road networks, the company also initiated the installation of special lighting involving high intensity lights in selected major intersections around the metropolis and other provincial areas. This is being carried out in cooperation with the local government units to further safeguard the motorists and pedestrians converging in those strategic points. To date, some 126 intersections had been provided with such lighting.

Needless to say, the streetlight projects have been generating a lot of goodwill not only among the company's customers but also among the public in general. Numerous notes of praise were received from government units, local executives, private organizations, and homeowners citing the benefits brought about by the streetlight projects. The direct contact with customers and local executives being practiced by the Local Streetlights Office results to a better and smoother relationship. The customers, local government units and private organizations may directly contact the office for their street lighting needs.

Aside from the social contribution or dimension of the program, the improvement of streetlight facilities likewise has positive impact on the overall performance of the company, which redounds ultimately to better and economical electric service. The reliability and energy efficiency of the sodium streetlights contribute to the lowering of system loss and complaints by customers.

The modernization program for streetlights in Metro Manila will be pursued until 2003 when some 130,000 streetlights will have been converted to sodium. The company has spent around PhP430 million and plans to spend another PhP340 million to complete the program in Metro Manila. Afterwards, it will proceed to convert around 100,000 streetlights in the provincial service area at an additional cost of around PhP650 million
