STRATOCASTER SELECTOR SWITCHES
             (a tale of three switches)
CRL 5  WAY SWITCH  - NEW P/N EP0076
CRL 3  WAY SWITCH -  NEW P/N EP0075
A 1963 CRL 3-WAY
From 1954 to about 1977 the strat had a standard 3-Way pickup selector switch made by CRL/Electroswitch (EP0075). Then in 1977, the model was changed to a 5 way selector switch for more possiblities (EP0076). Both models had the selector switch spring
installed on one side, which is easy to indentifiy on the left.
Sometime in the late 80's and early  90's, after using some other different switches like "The Strat" - rotary knob -  Fender changed the CRL 5-Way Switch to a "Oak Gribsby" which is now sold as an "orginal part"  Fender P/N 099-2041-000 (3 Way - Left pic) and Fender P/N 099-1367-000 (5 Way - right pic). It is another product that Electroswitch makes, not the original CRL.  Only some custom shop models and true vintage guitars have an original 3 or 5 way CRL switch installed. Fender does seem to know the difference, some featured guitars at NAMM even had them installed.  Most standard guitars Fender makes now have the Oak Gribsby installed.   Fender Squires and Charvels sometimes have a cheaper version  of this switch installed with straight terminals. The original CRL switch (3 way or 5 way, depending on your preference) can be purchased from many places online like ACMEGuitarparts (high quality), or places like AllParts.   Beware that some "vintage wiring kits" say they package the CRL but give you the Oak Gribsby switch instead, which happened to me from one vendor.
