Latimer Soaps are handmade in small batches in my farmhouse kitchen,
which is near the old ghost town of Latimer, north of Kingston, Ontario.
Unlike commercial soaps, they contain all natural ingredients; they
are safe, mild and moisturizing. They contain none of the detergents
or chemicals that commercially mass manufactured soaps contain and
therefore do not strip your skin of its natural oils. In commercially
made soap, the glycerine (a by-product of the soap making process)
is removed for use in cosmetics manufacturing. This makes the soap
very drying as glycerine is an emollient which softens your skin.
Latimer soaps are made from finest quality food grade oils in several
carefully selected combinations which include olive, coconut, sweet
almond, soybean, castor, avocado, jojoba, canola, palm, Vitamin E
and wheatgerm oils. Other base ingredients are honey, cocoa butter, aloe
vera, fresh free-range eggs, milk and spring water. In addition, we
add herbs, spices, honey, nuts, grain, flowers, tea, pure essential
oils and fragrance oils (a combination of natural and synthetic fragrances
specially formulated for soap making) to the soap. If colour is added,
it is either a natural pigment, natural colourant or synthetic soap
colourant. Several of the soaps contain no added colouring and/or
fragrance for those with sensitivities. In any case, all ingredients
are listed on the packaging. Soap bars are cut by hand and therefore
their weight varies depending on ingredients. Most bars weight approximately
100 grams. Latimer soaps contain no preservatives and should be used
within a year. Although soap will last indefinitely, the fragrance
and/or colours will fade with time. For longer lasting soap, keep
it exposed to air, and let soap dry out between uses in a well drained
soap dish. Latimer soaps are biodegradable, never tested on animals
(just voluntary humans!), and use minimal and environmentally friendly
packaging. At Latimer Soap Works we are continually striving to bring
creative, innovative and effective high quality skin care products
to you. If you have any feedback, positive or negative on our products
we would be happy to hear from you. Or if you have any suggestions
for a soap idea or product, please feel free to suggest it to us.
