Introducing The Small Crimped Compote... and a story about tradingMy first introduction to this piece was the yellow one pictured above. It was sold by someone who knew nothing about it and I got it at a very reasonable price. I really didn't know anything about it except that it was King's Crown. Fellow King's Crown collector Ed identified it for me it was called a Small Crimped Compote. I have since seen it in a Tiffin catalog. Since the acquisition of the yellow one I found the light cranberry one in the picture. I really liked having one closer to the color that I normally collect, but it wasn't as dark as I would have liked it.Here's when the trading discussions began. Ed the King's Crown collector, who identified the piece for me, proposed a trade. He offered something really nice, but I liked having a small "cranberry" crimped compote in my collection too much. He tried to convince me the yellow was good enough for my collection. I tried to convince him the yellow was good enough for his collection. Then he came up with an offer I liked. Trading the light compote for a darker one. He had 2 of the darker ones. So, now I have the yellow and the darker cranberry in my collection and I'm very happy with the trade. I couldn't help taking a picture with the 3 together before I sent off the lighter one to Ed's collection. I had talked with Ed off and on for a few months and I had heard about his dealings with other King's Crown collectors. I felt confident that the trade would go well. So, give trading a second thought and maybe you'll have a small crimped compote in your collection one day.
