King's Crown Ruby Punch Set

Just A Collection... Or A Way Of Life

I figure there are 2 types of collectors in the world. The type who could collect just about anything keep it in a shoe box in the closet and there are the type who like to live with their collections. I never thought of myself as a collector. Having a collections meant I'd have to dust it, find a place to store it, think of something to collect. ;) My husband on the other hand doesn't need much inspiration to start a collection of any kind. How to take care of it and where to keep it are secondary thoughts, first and foremost it is to be stored!

So, when I first decided to collect King's Crown my thoughts were if I'm going to dust this stuff and find a place to store it I'm going to use it and enjoy it. I was also prompted with the thought to use it by the unpleasant task of selling my Mother-In-Laws precious treasures many years ago in a yard sale after she passed away. The dishes were so precious to her she never used them. Lots of the dishes were wedding presents my husband said he'd never seen. So, I thought when my things are sold in a yard sale one day they will be USED and worth the whole $1 paid for them.

The above picture is of my punch set. Can you believe I use it? I do! Granted it doesn't come out to every party it is mostly used during the Christmas season and maybe Valentine's Day. Through my house though you'll find a compote with a candle in it. A candy box with... yes... candy in it. I have several different colors of salad bowls and matching plates and depending on my mood I'll change the colors and have the set sitting on my breakfast table. If I have friends over for brunch out comes the King's Crown coffee cups, creamer and sugar bowl. Maybe some plates for muffins or scones. During the holiday season I have a King's Crown dinner. I use every piece of King's Crown I can possibly use. It gets to be a joke as I find a serving piece for every step of the meal from appetizers to dessert. My father, who thinks dish collecting is pretty silly, was getting perturbed and commented after dessert that I HAD to have used every single piece of King's Crown. I came around the corner and said, "Toothpick?!" We all broke into laughter, even my father.

Have you guess it.... yes, King's Crown is a way of life at my house. My personal preference don't store your collection in a hutch and dust it. Bring it out, wash it, use it from time to time. You don't have to bring it all out at once. Set out a piece here and there. Serve yourself a cup of coffee in a King's Crown coffee cup and saucer. Enjoy your set before your daughter-in-law uses the wave of the future and sells your collection on ebay.
