This is my latest acquistion. I got a tip from Nina, an open salt collector. She saw this pitcher while out looking for open salts I imagine. What's really cool about this tip is she had a digital camera with her and could send me a picture! It was at an antique mall in Pennsylvania. I was able to figure out from the picture and the dimensions that it was the tankard pitcher measuring 8 3/8 inches high at the spout.
Even though I knew the size, when I received it in the mail I was surprised by how small it was. It is described as a "Tankard" pitcher, which to me seems like a BIG word. The dictionary describes "tankard" as a tall one handle drinking vessel. I'm curious as to what the drinking habits were around the turn of the century. Now-a-days, this would be a single serving pitcher. Seems like if we don't have a cup holding at least 32 ounces were not happy. This pitcher holds just under 24 ounces.
