| Mini-Review: Jude @ Largo, May 14, 2002 Hey All: So this is going to be an abbreviated review of last Tuesday's show because upon my arrival at Largo, I discovered I'd left my recorder at home (just one of many bad things to go wrong with the night...lol) So anyway, my real memory (as opposed to the fake one I use with my recordings) isn't quite up to par. Gus opened the show, and though I wasn't all that impressed with him the last time he opened for Jude, that changed with this performance. He sang only songs from his upcoming CD (will be out sometime "this decade.") There's a really great song called "1-2-3-4-5" which I absolutely loved. Then Jude came out and performed a pretty ordinary setlist (save for a couple songs.) The coolest thing about this show was the surprise guest he brought up on stage with him halfway through the show....the return of William Rowe playing bass for him!! That was pretty amazing! Now if only he might borrow Blair away from Alanis for a bit...but that's highly unlikey :) Here's a quick run-down of the setlist: 1. I'm Sorry Now 2. You Mama You 3. George 4. Rick James 5. I Know The next few songs were performed on electric guitar: 6. Dance Floor 7. Your Eyes 8. Prophet Back to acoustic: 9. Cuba 10. Red Room Over to the piano: 11. King Of Yesterday 12. Sarah Goodnight 13. The Asshole Song Back to the acoustic guitar, and enter William Rowe. 14. Indian Lover 15. The Not So Pretty Princess (a slowed down, mellow version of the song after numerous requests for it from the audience.) 16. Out Of LA 17. Paper Towel 18. Lucille (only the first verse and chorus...Jude seemed to forget the lyrics) 19. In Between 20. Baby Ruth In Atlanta (another "forgotten lyrics" song, but it was heavily requested) 21. My Room - an unfinished new song that was played on electric guitar (it's usually played on piano...you can hear it on my site right now...the piano version, I mean) 22. Love Love Love 23. Turn The Radio On - a brand new song...it's actually quite cool...one of those story-songs which were famous in the 60s and 70s. I'll have to request it next week to get it on tape hopefully! Encore: 24. I Do The show began just after 10, and lasted until after midnight. This was probably the longest Jude show I've been to. When I got to Largo, Jude was there talking to the Door Guy PJ, and I was thinking to myself, okay, he knows my name, he knows I've traveled out of state to see him, now do I say hey or something...but before I had a chance to he left. During the show, Jude mentioned about how the week before he married a couple on stage, and said that he had recognized someone coming into the club tonight (me!) and wanted to know how that couple was doing...so I yelled out that they were doing good! That was a nice little moment for me :-) Uhhh...man, my mind is totally blank on what else happened. Oh well. Oh...Jude is playing Largo over the next month...he'll be playing the next two Tuesday's of May, as well as moving back to Wednesdays in June, playing two dates in the middle of the month (June 12th and June 19th). The dates are on my site as well :-) That's it I guess. |
