I had never been to Ground Zero so I wasn't sure what it was like. It's a nice place. So soon after we get there I'm in the bathroom, doing what one does in the bathroom, and in walks Scott Hill, from Fu Manchu, and I'm like COOL, but I didn't say anything because if some guy started talking to me while he was taking a piss I'd think he was weird. I don't want Scott thinking I'm weird. Anyway so after a while Juggernaut starts playing on the small stage in the other room so we go in there and see them. I just saw them several weeks ago so I just kinda hung out in the back. They are ok if you like that type of stuff.
So next we move back to the main room and get up kinda close for the next band, Supagroup. They already had their stuff set up so they started pretty quickly. They are a good band and they have a lot of engery. Some of their stuff has an AC/DC tinge to it, straight up rock. So they were really cool, go check them out.       Next up was Alabama Thunderpussy. This is the third time (at least) I've seen them this year, so I wasn't sure if I would find them as cool this time. But they still kick ass. They played a lot of the songs they've played the last several times I've seen them but it's good stuff. And they ended with a very cool cover of "Man on the Silver Mountain." I happen to like the Rainbow, and even though ATP's singer is no Dio and doesn't nearly have the range, it still was a very nice way to end the set.       Ah, so next was the one I was really waiting for, Fu Manchu. What can I say, the Fu delivers. You can say what you want about the last few albums, but live they make anything sound great. Scott was very pissed about some sound problems, apparently his monitors weren't working and they did "California Crossing" with no mic, but that's ok, it sounded good on the floor. At one point in the show a guy in pit was knocked out and all these guys were trying to wake him up and Scott stops and says like "Is that guy alright?" But they carried him off and the band kept on with the song. They played a good mix of stuff and it all sounded good. I was really hoping they played "Evil Eye" and they did. "Saturn 3" and "King of the Road" were a lot of fun (you know you want to yell "King of the Road says you move too slow!" over and over). So I was very pleased with Fu Manchu, I just wish they could have played more.       I think I need to say some things at this point. It was really really hot in there. I was covered it sweat. I was also pretty tired cause I was really into the other bands. Also I've always been kinda weird about Corrosion of Conformity. I tend to like some songs but not really care for others. Anyway I was looking forward to them, cause I really like the new album.       So COC. They were good. I was so tired it was hard to move much to it, but I really liked them. The new stuff sounded great. They played some stuff they usually don't play on tour. Their popular stuff was good also. Their encore was "Clean My Wounds" with a really long jam session in the middle. Woody let Ryan Lake of ATP use his guitar to play a while. So COC impressed me for the first time seeing them. Also I would like to say that I'm sure Mike Dean is really cool guy, but he has a very "interesting" playing style, and makes some faces that would make you think he's in pain, but if it works for him, it works for me.       So that was a really cool show. Usually I can't say I like all the bands as much as I did here. After the show guys from the bands were loading up their stuff. Erik Larson of ATP walked by and I told him I got his first solo cd and he really needs to do another one and he was like "I have one coming out next week." How cool is that, ask and you shall receive. Then I just had to talk to Scott Hill, so I told him I loved their set, and he apologized for the sound problems and stuff. Very cool night. |
