One of the good things about living on the edge of town and having an open field of tall prairie grass directly behind our yard is that occasionally an unexpected visitor will show up. This morning, that visitor turned out to be in the form of a ring-necked pheasant that was staring back at me on one of the times that I happened to look out at the yard to see what birds had come to visit. It stayed in and near the long grass that was providing it cover, again giving me reason to know I need to plant a prairie garden to provide cover to some of our animal friends.
