Kingman Kutups Square Dance Club- Newsletter June/July 2008

 

Happy New Year to our all our members.  Our club is starting its new year with a whole new board.  So be kind and patient with us, we will do our best for this club.  We want to welcome the newly graduated members to the club.  Also I want to thank all the other members for their support and dedication to our club.  Without them, we wouldn’t have a club to dance at. 

 

We have some information we wanted to get to the members.  We are going to have a Club meeting on June 10, before the workshop at 6:00pm at the Sr. Center, if available.  You don’t want to miss it; we will be discussing the items in this newsletter. 

 

1. The Newsletter- The president’s newsletter is to give the membership the information about what is going on in  the club and activities. 

 

2. Recommendations from the Board-

 

Dance & Class Location

The club will be having there Saturday dances at the Katherine Heidenreich Adult Center for the 08-09 year.

The club will hold their 08-09 classes at the Katherine Heidenreich Adult Center.  The Kingman School District has denied our request to change dance location.  Not only can’t we move to the Kingman Middle School, but we no longer can dance at the White Cliffs Middle School  because they are rebuilding the classrooms near the cafertia.  But the good news is that Ron Stradling was able to work on our behalf and get the Sr. Center at a very reasonable rent.  We are still checking to some other locations for the Jubilee and Halfway dances.  Anyone who might know of a church social building or another location that might work as a dance location please let one of the board members know. 

 

The time has changed-                         

Square Dancing to start at 7:00pm,and  End at 9:30pm.   Round dancing to be between tips.  No pre rounds before the dance.  For a larger dance, pre rounds can be advertised to start at 6:30 pm.  The board felt that it would advisable to start the dance earlier so that it can end at 9:30 pm instead of 10:00 pm.  Visitors usually start leaving at 9:30 pm because of their drive home.  If the number round dancer increases, we could have the round dancing start at 6:30pm.  But for now the dances will start at 7:00pm.

                                                                                                                                                         

Theme for the Jubilee

The theme for the Jubilee was discussed and thought Route 66 Jubilee would be good.  That weekend happens to be the Laughlin River Run and that theme just seem to fit. 

 

Dates for May Dances

The dances in May to be changed to May 16 & May 30 to avoid Mothers day weekend and Memorial Day weekend.  May 16^th will be the Graduation and May 30th will be the “Come as you are Dance

”

 

Other Business

 

Club t-shirts & Club fabric- Linda Gibson will be taking orders for our  club  T-shirts.  She will also look into ordering sweatshirts or jackets. We will have a sign up sheet at the first two summer workshop dances.

She has also ordered more club fabric.  She will purchase it on behalf of the club.  So any members that would like to buy the fabric, let Linda know and you will pay the club.

Club Picnic

We have reserved the Hualapai Mountian Park for August 3^rd to have a Club

Picnic/Dance.  We have the park area Rec. 2  from Sunday, 9am to Monday 8am.  We will have a barbeque Sunday afternoon about 1pm. The club will provide the hamburgers and hotdogs.  We are asking our members to bring a salad or dessert. Mike has agreed to call a few tips for us in the afternoon.  If you want to bring your RV/camper or stay overnight, you can park at the Rec. area for the regular overnight price of $12.00 a night. This is just a fun afternoon of fellowship and dancing.

 

End of the summer party- Hosted by the Wilders

August 26^th, Mike and Donna have invited the club to their beautiful home for a pool party.  Bring a potluck dish and your swimsuit and your dancing shoes.  You can earn your duck badge. (For dancing in a swimming pool)

 

Girls & Boys Club Demo at Wal-Mart (Rescheduled)

June 21, 2008 at Wal-Mart Parking Lot at 11:00am-  Need dancers for a demo.  Be there at 10:30, in square dance attire. 

 

 

 

Thank yous

A big thank you to the members who came to the 2 demos that we had in May. 

May - 17^th at Locomotive park – Sis,Yula & JD, Bob & Tess, Bob & Audrey, Shawn, Gene, Tom, Art, Dani, Rick and of course, Mike &Donna- We handed out several information cards and may have gotten some new class members.

 

May 24^th at Wal Mart- Sis, Yula & JD, Bob & Tess, Bob & Audrey, Shawn, Gene, Don & Jan, Lee, Tom, Gene, Marilyn, Rick and of Mike & Donna. The rain had cancelled the Girls and Boys Club event, but we all showed and the management agreed to let us go ahead with our demo.  We danced for an hour inside the store and we had quit an audience.

 

For Your Information

 

Our Summer Plus Workshop will begin June 3^rd at the Sr. Center.  Mike Wilder is our instructor.  Please join us for a refresher course on Mainstream and Plus calls.  Workshop begins at 7:15pm to 9:00pm.  Come join the fun. 

 

Just a Reminder- New Beginners Class will start September 9, 2008.  It will be held at the Senior Center, 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  A Plus workshop will start at 6:30pm.  If you know anyone who is interested in learning to square dance, be sure to let us know, so we can contact them.   Remember, this is how our club stays alive. 

 

Teddy Bear Dance in Las Vegas. –August 1, 20008-  The Las Vegas Association is having their Annual Teddy Bear Dance for the Miracle Network.  We are part of that Association and we should help support them.  Let’s see if we can get a square or two together and go over and show them that Kingman is going and growing.  We can set up carpools to help with cost of gas and it is always a lot more fun to travel with a friend.

 

Pre-Labor Day Dance- August 28, 2008- Stardusters in Las Vegas are having a Dance with Mike Sikorsky calling.  Dance starts at 6:30, ends at 8:50.  We will set up car pools.  This is good opportunity to dance to another great caller and support the Stardusters.  The Stardusters have come several times to our dances this year.  This is a good way to return the favor. 

 

 

We hope to see all of you over the summer and if not, be safe.  Remember if you can’t dance with us, then dance where ever you are.  Have a great summer.
