The Prom
Months of preparation for
Just one night of fun
Dreams of what could be before
That night is done
Invited to a school event
Of formal stature
Hours of dance filled
With endless rapture

The day is soon dawning
She lies in her bed
Wond?ring what the night will bring ?
How far she?ll be led
His mind?s far away at that point
Looking ahead
Envisioning a gorgeous dress
Great hair on a head.

He knocks on her door
And she appears before him
An expensive display of lust
Significantly thin
They smile at each other
As they start to begin
Venturing out to the prom
Tickets they got to win.

A glorious arrival
Floating across the floor
But once the DJ turned it up
The float became a soar.
Fast or slow dancing
They were always close
They drank the night up
A fantastic overdose.

The last song was played
They headed for home
But before they showed up
They decided to roam.
The car came to a stop
By the vacant lake
The world slowed to a standstill
The car internally baked.

The two were transported
To a parallel place
Where pleasure and passion
Unite in a race
Overwhelmed by their bliss
The two became one
Following a climax
And their passion was done.

They arrived at her house
And they said their goodbyes
Although she said nothing
It was there in her eyes.
Neither one slept that night
Neither knew how.
What they had lost that night
Could never be found.

They knew they were in love
They?d have it no other way
They?d laugh for hours on end
Go out every other day.
They kept that night a secret
Both sacred and dear
Until one fateful day
They knew the meaning of fear.

The phone rang in the kitchen
He answered her call
She told him what she had to say
He had to lean on the wall.
She said that she was missing something
That she?d normally get
In a moment the glass was shattered
Tranquil life had been hit.

Did he cry? He?s told he did
When his parents returned
He couldn?t say what happened
So they became concerned
Finally he settled down
And told them how it had to be
From two to one the bodies were ?
But it was soon to be three.

A moment of silence
An exchanged awkward glance
In a moment, three lives
Had been thrown out of balance.
They knew it could never be
As it had been before,
Surrounded ev?rywhere they went
By taunts, jeers, and scorn.

She was noticeably fatter
He hated to admit
A telltale reminder
That he had to submit
To a new stage of maturity
He had to grow up fast
If he didn?t shape up
This adventure could be his last.

The day is soon dawning
He begins his routine
She wasn?t at school that day
Nowhere to be seen
Found his parents sitting calmly
As he entered his room
Said the news they had would bring him
To psychological doom.

He sat and he listened
And he started to cry.
His mind flew off elsewhere,
Somewhere up in the sky.
He joined her in thought
Where she now had to live
Her stress was too much to handle
He begged her to forgive.

But amnesty was the last thought
That dwelled in her eye
The creature that they had created
Caused her to die
Father and son now
Were left all alone.
The Eve had left the Adam
In a world now unknown.

Regardless of his wishing
He knew in his soul
She wouldn?t be coming back to him
To fill in this hole.
He had to play the student
The mom and the dad
He often thought back to that day
And the dreams that he had.

He saw her in her dress
And her smile like stars
Then the light disappeared
And she was put behind bars.
He had ruined her life,
And now it was gone.
He just sat and he stared,
Became extremely withdrawn.

What happened to him?
None remain who know.
The child was soon adopted
To a foster-care home.
The bliss that he felt
From a glorious romance
Left him helpless and lost
Stuck in a lifelong trance.
Although the poem itself isnt fantastic, i've succeeded with it. My intent was to set it up like a light read, and then blow people away when it gets serious. Readers have said that they had to sit down when they got to the deeper parts because it totally caught them off guard.

My mom is convinced that it's an autobiographical story. Let me be the first to tell you that such is not the case - and remind you that around here, there arent any lakes to go to ayways. ^_^
