| Thursday February 13 To everyone that is south of us (and those very few that are north of us): So much has changed and is changing since I wrote just days ago, I just had to write and share. But first, something completely different. There is a man in town named Victor. When I see him across the way, I cannot resist shouting, "Heeeeyyyy, Victor!" I don't think he knows why I think it's amusing. Some of you know why that's funny. Just a sunny spot in a day for me. New in our house: It all happened in the course of one hour. We have a new member of our family. Rocksie was living temporarily under a house (in the stilted area) and the family in the house suggested she live with us. She was hungry, somewhat scrawny, and needing a family. So Rocksie moved in Wednesday. The only hassle, really, with having this new member of our family was obtaining a litter box. Oh, didn't I mention that she's a kitten? My mistake. You can dry your eyes now. Nicole is on cloud nine (thousand). She has really needed an unconditional friend, and now has one. One that scratches, but there are always trade-offs. The little boy of the house where Rocksie used to live was upset about the move. The family had to find a new home for the cat because someone in the house is pregnant, and the litter bothered her. Kristin told the little boy that he could come over and visit the cat anytime. He said, "We had to get rid of Rocksie because my sister is pregnant. When she (sister) has her kitty, we can get Rocksie back. She has a kitty in her tummy. The baby's dad is a really big kitty." Oh, really, Kristin said. Interesting. More on Rocksie (including a picture sometime) as life continues. Oh no....does this mean the cat is going to have a "quote section" or it's own page on the website? Um.......no. Not that we really need it: It's official. Our house has electric baseboard heaters that work now! This is revolutionary as we have used the woodstove (mostly for comfort and energy conservation) and space heaters (which can be loud). But the weather has only gotten down to, oh about 30 degrees F and about 19 snowflakes last week. So the real advantage, since we have tile floors, is not waking up to an ice rink at 7:30 a.m. Speaking of the weather, it's been mostly clear, some rainy days, not so cold - nothing like Minnesota right now. ha ha. Some fog here, some super light drizzle there. That's about it. We're moving!!! That's right, we're moving. A whopping 2 inches (3 centimeters) from where we live now into the other side of the duplex. Our side has been accumulating mold on some walls and Kristin is reacting allergically to it. We were given the ok to move next-door, so that will be our weekend entertainment. The cool thing about moving in Kingcome is that even if we moved to the whole other side of the village, the mailing address is always the same! No forwarding! We may be able to stretch our phone cord into our new digs, otherwise we'll let you know if we get a new number. Please keep calling until you are directed not to. "What do you teach in P.E., John?" I've gotten this question a lot. I take the K-3 class (8 kids) into P.E. (for 15 minutes) and they play indoor soccer every other day. On the other days they either play hockey, some basketball dribbling-drills, jai-alai (sp??) or we do parachute. I tried my all-time favorite, crab-soccer, once. ONCE. Biggest failure ever. I did not know that it was possible to not like crab soccer. The Grade 4-7 class (usually 2-3 kids) and I play indoor soccer together for 15 minutes every day. I love it. I can barely hold my ground with them. Either they're really good or I'm....uh, not. I think it's the latter. Ok. That's all for now. Big Valentine's dinner tomorrow at the school. Chinese food fundraiser. Just the way St. Valentine would have wanted it. Peace is possible. NicoleKristinJohn Ok, so that's not all. Last night's quote, after the first hours of the new cat: 9:55 p.m. "Daddy.....Daddy." Dad enters room, "What's up sweetie?" "I can't sleeeeeeep." "What's the matter? Are you sick? Too hot? Why can't you sleep?" "Because.......I have a cat." Too excited to sleep. Happiness is a good thing. |
