James Madison Hill (he went by "Madison" his whole life) was born March 15, 1875, Crawford County, WI to James Marvin and Rebecca (Hartley) Hill. He married in Crawford County, WI on October 11, 1897 to Anna Caroline Hounsell, born June 13, 1871, Crawford County, daughter of Marwood and Francis Ann (Pierce) Hounsell. Together they had ten children between 1898 and 1914: John, Grant, Susannah "Susie," Jim, Freddie Russell, Henry, Hannah "Doll," Frank, Tillman "Weinie," and Jesse "Muns."
Madison Hill died November 29, 1944 and Anna died January 25, 1951 in Soldiers Grove, WI. They are buried at North Clayton Cemetery, Crawford Couny, WI. Jesse "Muns" Hill, the last surviving child, died in 1992.
