Frederick and Margaret Bobb and three children set sail for America from Bylinger, Germany. Their boat was wrecked during a storm, killing two of the children, who were buried at sea. The Bobbs were stranded in Norway for a year before an English sailing vessel carried the shipwreck victims to Maryland. The Bobbs walked from Maryland to central Pennsylvania on foot, stopping to work periodically. They ultimately settled in Morrison Cove, near Martinsburg, PA. In March of 1855, after Frederick's death in Pennsylvania, Margaret and two of her children, John and Annah, traveled alone by riverboat from Pittsburgh, PA. They sailed on the Ohio River to St. Louis, then on the Mississippi to Prairie du Chien, then on the Wisconsin River to Orion, Richland County, WI. The trip took approximately 2 weeks.
The known children of Frederick and Margaret Bobb are: John Bobb, Charles F. Bobb, Peter Frederick Bobb, Alexander Bobb, Catharine B. (Bobb) McIlhattan Knapp, Annah (Bobb) Shepherd, Unknown child #1, Unknown Child #2. It is believed they may have also had two other unknown children.

Two unknown children, estimated by me to have been born about 1810-1818, died while sailing to America with their parents and brother Charles. Their ship was said to have wrecked somewhere off the coast of Norway. The two children did not survive and were buried at sea. While the perported date of the crossing was 1823 in literature I read somewhere, the year-long stay by the family in Norway, followed by the birth of their brother, Peter, in Maryland in 1819 leads me to believe it was earlier - possibly 1817 or 1818.

Peter Frederick Bobb was born February 13, 1819 in Maryland and married a woman named Margaret Shimer, who was born January 31, 1822 in Maryland (or possibly McConelsburg, PA?). Peter and Margaret had at least four children: William W. Bobb, John Q. Bobb, Thomas Allen Bobb and Peter "Edgar" Bobb. Possible additional children were Ellen Jane, Charlotte, Matilda, Rebecca, Susan, Adeline, Aberry, Alexander, all of whom resided with the family in various census reports. Peter came from Pennsylvania in 1854 & purchased land on Section 32, where he still resided in 1906. He was a member of Indian Creek School Board and his daughter-in-law, Ada Bobb, was the first schoolteacher there in 1870. A 1968 article in the Muscoda Progressive newspaper told that Peter F. Bobb gave the old school building to the town of Orion to be used for a church and shows a photo of Peter & Mrs. Bobb on the wall of the church. Peter died February 21, 1913 and Margaret died May 28, 1903, both in Richland County, WI. Both are buried at Indian Creek Cemetery in Orion.
