I found this photo in my grandmother's belongings after her death. On the back was simply written "Alta." I knew there had been an Alta Copus in the area, and since grandma's mother was a Copus, I guessed this was the same Alta in the photograph, and assumed she was somehow related. Upon research, I discovered that this Alta Copus, wife of Christopher "Christ" Copus, was also a Longmire, which is my grandmother's maiden name.
The only child known to be born of Christopher and Alta (Longmire) Copus was an unnamed male child who died at birth on December 29, 1920 in Bell Center, Crawford County, WI.
I have attempted to zoom in on the woman's face and sharpen the features in the second photo. If anyone knows for certain that this is someone other than Alta (Longmire) Copus, or has further information about this woman & her family, or additional photos to share, please notify me.
