The Philos Brass is comprised of the conservatory-trained musicians from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Formed in 2007, the quintet has performed extensively in the Greater Philadelphia area, engaging audiences with their high energy and youthful exuberance. Stanford Thompson and Matthew Ebisuzaki, trumpets; Corey Klein, horn; Ryan Seay, trombone' and Nathan Lodge, bass-trombone have created the ensemble out of their love for brass chamber music and their desire to perform this diverse repertoire for audiences of all ages. Plans for 2008-09 season include concerts and outreach performances throughout the region. 
Stanford Thompson (trumpet), from Decatur, GA, has attended The Curtis Institute of Music since 2005; he holds the William A. Loeb Fellowship and studies with Philadelphia Orchestra principal trumpet David Bilger. Additional teachers have included Christopher Martin of the Chicago Symphony and Joseph Walthall of the Atlanta Symphony. Mr. Thomson has presented concerts in cities across the United States and over a dozen cities in Asia and Europe. He has performed as soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and in January 2007 premiered Sheridan Seyfried's Constellation at the Georgia Music Educator's Association In-Service Conference. Orchestral experience includes performances with the Curtis Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, Symphony in C, Endless Mountain Music Festival and Gateways Music Festival orchestras. As a chamber musician, he performs with the Rittenhouse Brass and Philos Brass  Quintet. Mr. Thompson also enjoys an active schedule of community engagement events. He has presented in public school districts of Philadelphia, Reading, York, Rochester (NY) and Atlanta. He has collaborated with such organizations as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, The  Curtis Institute of Music, Musicopia, and the Symphony in C to design and present programs for students and adults of all ages. In 2004, Mr. Thompson co-designed and managed the Atlanta Trumpet Festival. Sponsored by Emory University and Coca-Cola, this festival is held annually and attracts over 130 trumpeters. He also is founder and artistic director of the Reading Summer Music Institute and manages Phinical Web Designs, a professional web-design company founded in 2000. Mr. Thompson is the recipient of the Azira G. Hill Scholarship from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Dave Maddy Scholarship from the Metropolitan Youth Symphony of Atlanta, and a Fine Arts Award from the InterlochenCenter for the Arts.
Matthew Ebisuzaki (trumpet), from San Pablo, CA, entered The Curtis Institute of Music in 2007 and studies with David Bilger, principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. At Curtis he plays in the symphony orchestra, opera orchestra, and chamber orchestras, and is a member of the Philos Brass Quintet. He has also had the opportunity to study in ensembles under Philadelphia Orchestra musicians Blair Bollinger, Jeff Curnow, and Paul Krzywicki. Prior to attending Curtis, Mr. Ebisuzaki studied with Catherine Murtagh, Jay Rizzetto, and Bill Holmes in the Bay area. In the summers of 2000-2003, he attended the Stanford Jazz Workshop, studying improvisation and jazz ensemble playing. He has since participated in the San Francisco School of the Arts? High School Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. From 2003-2007, he performed in the San Francisco All-City Band, playing principal for two of those years. He was also a member of the San Francisco Youth Orchestra from 2006-2007. As a soloist, Mr. Ebizuzaki performed the Hummel Trumpet Concerto with the De Anza Symphony in 2003 under the direction of Lauren Tayorle. He also performed as soloist in the premiere of an original composition by Matthew Cmiel entitled "Search at Night", with the San Francisco School of the Arts Orchestra.
Corey Klein (horn), from Agoura Hills, CA, entered The Curtis Institute of Music in 2006 and studies with Jennifer Montone, principal horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra. While at Curtis he also studied with the late Jerome Ashby, associate principal horn of the New York Philharmonic. As an orchestral musician, Mr. Klein has performed with the Symphony in C and the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and has participated in summer festivals including the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Eastern Music Festival, and the Pacific Music Festival. He has performed under the baton of many prominent conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, ChristophEschenbach, Alan Gilbert, and Riccardo Muti. He also is an active chamber musician and is currently performing in ensembles with Jennifer Montone and Daniel Matsukawa, principal bassoon of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Past mentors include Brian Drake of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Leslie Norton of the Nashville Symphony and Eric Ruske, a former member of the Empire Brass.
Ryan Seay (trombone), from Denver, CO, has attended The Curtis Institute of Music since 2007 and studies trombone with Nitzan Haroz, principal trombone of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He began his undergraduate studies at the Lamont School of Music at the University  of Denver, where he was a featured soloist with the Lamont Jazz Orchestra and a winner of the Lamont School of Music Solo Honors Competition. Consequently, he was featured as a solo performer at the Lamont All-School Convocation. A fervent chamber musician, Mr. Seay has played in several brass quintets and brass ensembles, including the Philos Brass Quintet and the Glenn Brass Quintet, which was a winner of the Lamont Chamber Ensemble Competition in 2007. In 2006, he was a finalist in the Aurora Symphony Concerto Competition. Mr. Seay has studied with Dr. Joseph Martin, professor of trombone at the Lamont School of Music and principal trombone of the Denver Brass. Previous teachers included John Daley and Paul Naslund, principal and second trombones of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, respectively. As an orchestral musician, Mr. Seay has participated in the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Lamont Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. He has toured to Argentina, Austria, and Hungary with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and has performed in the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary.
Nathan Lodge (bass trombone), from Charleston, SC entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2008 where he studies with Blair Bollinger, bass trombone of the Philadelphia Orchestra  He previously attended South Carolina University School of Music where he studied with Brad Edwards, principal trombone of Augusta Symphony Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic. Mr. Lodge ahs performed in Spoleto USA, Piccolo Spoleto and Brevard Music Center festivals. as well as with the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra, Triangle Symphony (Raleigh),and South Carolina All State Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band. He has played under the baton of Robert Spano, Ray Cramer and David Stahl. At 2008 Spoleto Festival USA,  Mr. Lodge has played in premiere performances of Monkey: Journey to the West, 
a
rock opera by Damon Albarn (The Gorillaz), Jamie Hewlett and Chen Shi-Zheng.
