Nadaburg Kindergartner's
SQUARE OF LIFE
PROJECT
OBSERVATION
We enjoyed going outside and looking at our squares. We felt very lucky because the older kids helped us. Mrs. Horwitz's class completed the Square of Life in the fall. The older students mentored the little ones during their three trips to the observation sites. The mentors completed the lists, typed them up, and returned them to the kindergarten room. We were very thankful for their help.

The Nadaburg kindergarten class had a great time observing the outdoor environment. We were a very lucky group. One of our upper grade classrooms had completed the Square of Life in the fall. They were able to be mentors to the many kindergarten students.

Non Living Observation:
The ground in one our small squares was dry except for one small area where the water had dripped off the roof on our last visit. This caused a small puddle of water with mud. Most of our squares were covered with twigs, dead leaves blown in from a distant tree, dead yellow dried up clumps of grass, gopher holes and anthills, small rocks and sand. One of our squares was unique with a footprint on it, and another with a small plastic comb. Most squares had a few pieces of trash, consisting of small pieces of paper and small pieces of plastic.

Animal Observation:
Our class made three visits to our sites. During that time we observed a small garden snake, a few lady bugs, several flying bugs including one butterfly and a bee, a gopher and several different kinds of ants.

Plant Observation:
Most of our squares had some Bermuda grass with seeds on the tips, fox tail grass, desert globe mallow, spruge and desert dandelions.

We certainly enjoyed this project.
