The question of the day is a great way to practice graphing and reading high frequency words. Each day a new question strip is slipped under the paper clips. The questions relate to our thematic unit or skills such as: Are you wearing red today? Students read the question and clip in their response. Once a week we turn the results into a graph. We do different graphs each week (bar, numerical, pictoral, vertical, horizontal etc) Boys use a blue clothespin and girls use a green clothespin to add complexity to our graphing. Some days we simply discuss orally: How many girls clipped yes? How many in all? etc.
