Although the core of an excellent fighter lies in his skill
and ability to adapt, there are also a number of basic(and possibly obvious?) things you can
do to help spur your growth. Colors To some it may seem odd that changing your color scheme could have an effect on your performance. However, it has been proven that colors can and do alter the way your mind reads information. Choosing a color scheme that is soft will be easier on your eyes and mind, especially if you play long hours. The main bulk of my output text is dimmed and easy on the eye. The more important text is colored in a slightly harsher tone so it gets my attention. Typing Speed Essential in becoming a good fighter. Not being able to type at a fast rate will leave you unable to respond to certain attacks in time. Although it will build automatically as you play, it still wouldn't hurt to spend some time outside of the realm practicing. Fonts Studies show that certain fonts and font sizes can be read faster than others. Fonts at a 10 point size are generally read more slowly than 12 point. Significant differences in reading time were found in that Times New Roman and Arial were read faster than Courier, Century Schoolbook, and Georgia. Courier is Zmuds default font by the way. Connection Speed Depending on your computers stats, this may or may not be a problem for you. If it is however, you may want to do a few things before logging on. Those would include shutting down unnecessary programs, like messengers, music programs, or whatever else you may have running. Press Ctrl + alt then hit delete delete on windows systems to see what kinds of applications and processes you have running and shut down the unnecessary ones. (Sometimes you have to experiment to figure out whats unnecessary). You may also wish to experiment playing at different times of the day to see if you can get better response times. After some experimentation with these elements you should be ready to begin learning how to actually fight. Smile. Interview conducted on the 12th day of Springflower, 937 years since the Divine War in the Parrian council chambers... Thank you for your time Agarwain You shake Someone by the hand Can you tell us a little about your own background? Where your playing from? Agarwain says, "A little... I'm playing in a room in a house in a town in a state on the eastern seaboard of the United States of America.". So, how did you stumble across Avalon? Agarwain says, "Well, I'd gone through this online RPG list -- all sorts of different games. Agarwain whispers, "None of them were very good." Agarwain says, "And in the list there was this game First Age... Flashy description, flashy site, flashy game.". Is this the first MUD you have ever played seriously? Agarwain says, "Seriously, yes.". And how long have you been playing? Agarwain says, "For nine months now.". Do you know any players in the "real world"? Agarwain says, "Not a one.". Would you ever consider going somewhat out of your way for a meet? Agarwain says, "Depends who I'm meeting, and how far out of my way I'd have to go. I'm not so materialistic, so maybe not.". If you could pick one person in Avalon to meet, who would it be? Agarwain says, "I'd really be interested in meeting Cabe. After all the things he does in Avalon as an active and volatile participant, I'd really like to see what he's like outside of game.". Out of all the divinities in this land, why was it that you choose Solontus? Agarwain says, "Solontus was the only divinity to show the sort of connection to the realm that I was looking for. The conflict that the order strives for is very much my style. He was the best of the best.". What kind of goals do you have set for Agarwain? Agarwain says, "There have been many legendary Enchanters in the past, and my overall goal is to join their ranks. A bit boring and expected, but there you are.". Godship too far fetched at this point? Agarwain says, "Well, before I even consider ordination I want to fight with the strength of a divinity.". A lot of people say they play this because its a break from reality, a way to vent so to speak, which is it for you? Agarwain says, "I don't come on Avalon hoping to 'break reality' or 'vent my feelings in a torent of rage against those who have wronged me or slapped me in the face'. Rather, I consider Avalon part of reality, a challenge that is very much connected to my life when I'm not sitting in this computer chair.". Agarwain says, "It's been awhile since I've thought of Avalon as a 'game' in the conventional sense of the word.". Have you ever found yourself wanting to brilliance someone in real life for stepping on your shoe? Agarwain says, "Well, I've thought of eternal disfavour and zapping actually -- more potent forms of revenge.". Agarwain smiles openly. Agarwain says, "I'm a real junky.". Who, in your mind was the best player to ever walk this land? Agarwain places his hands on his hips and says, "Hmm!". Agarwain says, "I'd have to say Aradhel.". Agarwain says, "In the early days of Avalon, Aradhel really made a name for himself, rising above his peers at a very early age.". Agarwain says, "I'm a little bias, being an Enchanter.". If you could change one thing about this land, what would it be? Agarwain says, "Make the BB less complicating. Maybe that would fall under changing my client around to circumnavigate the BB better, but word wrapping and aliases are a big problem.". Agarwain winks knowingly. Do you feel that being blind has had a positive effect or a negative effect on your playing experience? Agarwain says, "Definitely positive. I'm bias again because I've never played with working eyes, but I think fighting with only two hands and only 0 triggers is an accomplishment few can pride themselves on. If I become the best, I'll know my position was earned despite my lack of vision.". And I've heard your gaining quite the respect as a fighter as well Agarwain says, "I'd like to hope so.". Do you think Avalon has changed for the better or worse since you started playing? Agarwain says, "In a way I think it's changed for the better. There is a host of new features, and the players are all serious about what they're doing.". Any last words before we finish? Agarwain says, "Kinamic your the best, Thakria rules!" Yes, I know. Thank you for your time. (He didn't really say that last thing by the way) Who would you like to see interviewed in the next issue? Send email
