Sphinx Logo

Below are a few examples of pieces from the famous Sphinx jewellery house of Great Britain. They manufactured beautiful costume jewellery pieces from 1948 to 2002.

A typical feature of their style is a lustrous soft, gold-tone metal encrusted with rhinestones of fabulous quality (usually Austrian Swarovski stones). Their colour schemes and design styles range from demur Victorian jet / enamel / pearl mourning pieces to elegant diamante of the 1950's to vibrant, bold glamour of 1960's!

Logo Information:

Above is an example of the famous Sphinx oval marking.  It measures about half a centimetre in length and can sometimes be very difficult to see on a setting - especially if the metalwork has been patterned. Below are pictures of the back of some Sphinx settings:

"U-Shape" brooch: the setting on this particular brooch smooth. In this case, the logo is found in the very centre (just to the right of the pin).

"Leaf" brooch: the setting on this particular brooch smooth. Sometimes the logo is found on the "stalk" but many of these Leaf brooches appear to be unsigned.

"Flame"  shaped pointy flower brooch: you can  just see the oval logo on the top-right of this setting. This setting shows an example of the patterned "lined" metalwork found on the back of  (most) vintage pieces.

"8-Pointed-Star"  brooch: again, an example of the textured metalwork. This photo does not show the logo clearly but it is there in real life!
