| Friday, 9th January, 2004 "It's Raining, It's Pouring..." Buon giorno, Everybody! Well, what can I say, then? It's January here in Reggio, which means the following things: cold, rain, and FOG. Of course, fog is what the region is known for, so that's nothing unusual, and the cold and rain give me the kind of days I adore... so, no complaints! :) Anyway, Alle started back to work on Wednesday, so I've had two full days to myself (mostly), in which I've done laundry, cleaned our room, read, drawn, studied, come down to Rob and Andrew's (Alle's sister and her boyfriend) flat to use their PC, and snapped quick pics out my window of the street or the turtledoves that his dad feeds on the kitchen windowsill. In the evenings, Alle tends to get home first, so we chat and get the table ready for dinner each night before his father gets back. We haven't made definite plans in any respect, really. We just sort of see what time and prior commitments will allow, and we go with it. In good time, of course, we'll see the towns around here, and walk Reggio Emilia again, too. So far, here in town, he's shown me the street where he used to live, the door to his old flat, his schools, the kindergarten he attended (located in the city park), and all the "touristy" sites that the town has. We walked for three hours, the first time out. A day or two later we drove to Casina, a small town in the mountains nearby. We had a walk in a deserted park under the pines, while a car alarm droned incessantly somewhere and a dog barked, seemingly to hear his own echo. The air was cold and the sounds of everything seemed so far away, it was almost dreamlike, in a way... On Monday (lunedi), we went to a small town near here called Correggio, had a lovely walk and I took pictures there that I thought looked interesting. I hope some of them turn out, anyway... :-> We had gone to Modena, another charming place, on New Year's Day, but we went so late it was dark before we got there. Still, we had a short stroll under the holiday lights in the brisk air, and it was wonderful. :) On the way home, a "rest stop" was deemed necessary, and we stopped at a McDonald's (LOL!). We each had a coke and sat in the dining room (non-smoking, clean, and noisy with kids, naturally), watched the people and laughed at the fact that, no matter where you find one, a McDonald's is basically the same anywhere. Any plans regarding weekend travel have to be set around his schedule for Croce Verde, but we hope to go to Florence soon, and perhaps to Siena, and then maybe Pisa... A trip to the bookshops in Bologna would certainly be nice, as I'm looking for loads of material to read (if the price is right, eh?)... Once I get my pics developed, I'll scan them and post them online somewhere, so you can look if you're interested. In the meantime, I'll be boring you with notes like these. ;P Anyway, that's all for now... Cio, everybody! Kim |
