About the murder
On February 15, 1999, Lamont Coleman was shot nine times in the face and chest at 139th
Street and Lenox Avenue near his Harlem home. In May the same year, police arrested Gerard
Woodley in his Bronx apartment and charged him with second-degree murder. Police believe
Woodley killed Lamont in retaliation for a long-standing beef with Lamonts brother, who is
in prison.
While Woodley was originally held without bail, a police spokesperson said her records
showed that he is currently out on bail after having only posted 1 dollar. The police
spokesperson added that Woodley is due back in court on July 5 for a pre-trial hearing,
but only for a control date, which means the case is going to be adjourned to a new date.
As in the case of Tupac and of Biggie Smalls, L`s killer remains free.
