JEALOUS OF A PICTURE IN THE PAPER.

‘Morning Matt’

The staff member called cheerfully as he entered Matt’s room in The Priory, Matt groaned, it was only seven thirty in the morning, it was much too early in the day to sound this happy. Lifting his head off of the pillow, Matt looked enquiringly at the man.

‘Do you want a paper? There’s a picture of your mate James in the Star.’

At the mention of James’ name, Matt sat up and nodded eagerly, he had already read in the paper that James was worried about him, but he hadn’t heard from him because Emma had insisted that he should only be allowed to accept calls from her. He wasn’t even allowed to speak to his Mum and Dad. Scrabbling for enough change to pay for the paper, Matt pushed the money into the mans hand and snatched the paper away from him. He hadn’t told anyone but he had been cutting out any picture of James that had appeared in any paper, no matter how small, and hiding them in the bottom of his case. He was really missing his Jimmy.

As soon as the staff member had gone, Matt hopped up and made sure that the door was fully closed, he didn’t want to be disturbed as he looked at what he hoped would be a new picture of James. Having pulled the curtains back, Matt sat on the bed and opened the paper, the picture would either be on the gossip column or in the pop pages, and seeing as James didn’t have anything ready to release yet, he guessed on the gossip pages, but he was wrong.

Turning quickly to the pop pages, Matt’s face fell, there was a lovely picture taken of James, walking with four mates, and a piece wondering if they were James new band. All quite innocent to everyone except Matt, Matt felt the pressure building inside him, he knew that he couldn’t expect James to stay locked away because he was shut up in here, and he didn’t mind James going out with some friends, but what was HE doing there? Matt knew that he could trust James, but Matt also knew that that MAN, fancied the pants off James, and if Matt wasn’t there, he would try and make advances to his Jimmy.

In a fit of temper, Matt tore the page out of the paper and screwed it up; he couldn’t bear to look at that person walking so close to his beloved Jimmy. Flattening out the page again, Matt carefully tore James out of the picture and lifting it to his lips, kissed it, it was the nearest that he could get to the real thing, but soon he’d be out of here and then he’d go back and lay claim to what was his.

Two hours later, Matt sat in a counselling session, day dreaming about what he was going to do when he left here, when he councillor asked him what would be the first thing he did when he got out, and with a smile he said
’I’m going to go and make love to the most important person in my life.’
The counsellor grinned, and said,
’I’m sure Emma will enjoy that very much.’
Matt looked up and grinned,
’Who said it was Emma?’
