Guys Have Feelings Too.
“So Jodie… who are you fancying nowadays?” Matt asked eagerly.
“Oh no one in particular…” She answered in an innocent but flirty voice. .
“Well, do I know him?” She nodded. “Well? Who is it? You know fine well I hate guessing games!” .
“Ok, ok. I really like Charlie!” She blushed. .
“Oh. Do you.” Matt tried his best not to sound un-happy. “Well I could put in a good word for you, I’ll say something like, ‘Jodie is brilliant huh? I love her to bits, she’s…’” .
“You would do that for me?” Jodie hugged Matt as hard as she could and ran away to speak to Gemma. .
.
“Gemma! I told Matt about me liking Charlie; he said he would do a bit of match making for me! He is so great!” .
“Oh look Jodie, he’s speaking to him just now!” Jodie’s stomach did a somersault. Charlie was absolutely gorgeous and was pretty sound. All she ever wanted to do was hold him tight. “I think he’s going to ask you out Jodie, Look! He’s looking over at you… Jodie and Charlie!” .
“Gemma! You are so immature.” Charlie was looking over right enough and Jodie was giving him a sexy smile, but then she was distracted by James falling off of his skateboard. .
“Wow! Hey dude! That was great! I wanna do that again!” Jodie laughed, James her childhood friend always looked on the bright side of life. “So Jode, how are you? I must say you are looking very… red faced to put it nicely… anything you wanna tell your buddy Jimmy about?” .
“Matt is match-making for her!” Gemma butted in. James’ face dropped.
“Oh. So that’s why I was told very pleasantly to ‘bugger off’ then?” Jodie giggled she never noticed how much she had been blushing. She hoped no one else noticed. Matt was walking back towards her with Charlie’s answer. .
“Matt! What did he say then? Oh come on Matt tell me!” .
“He said he wants to speak to you over there.” Matt answered. It broke his heart to watch the girl he had been head over heels for since primary school skip across the road to Charlie. He knew that as soon as Jodie reached Charlie they would start to snog each other until the end of the night. .
.
“Matt are you alright?” James asked his best friend. He knew what he was feeling even though he didn’t want to admit it. James felt sorry for Matt, but happy for his other best mate Jodie. .
“Yeah, she’s happy that’s all that matters huh?” Matt sighed. His heart was shattering. “I’m going around the corner for a smoke. Sorry mate,” He quickly added as James stood up. “I would like to go alone.” .
.
Matt drew deeply from his cigarette. He threw the butt away as Jodie came around the corner. .
“Matt I just wanna say thanks! You are such a good mate!” She hugged him and kissed him on the cheek. “Oh well then, I’ll speak to ya later!” .
“Yeah. Bye.” Matt rubbed his cheek where Jodie’s soft lips had touched, then lit up another cigarette, he was that upset. .
It was Monday, and Matt was in a pretty foul mood, not just because he had school, or the fact he had been given a detention from the meanest teacher in the world, but the fact that Jodie and Charlie were all over each other… and he had made that happen. At dinner time the usual gang went to the usual place and sat in the usual seats, but Charlie was in Matt’s usual seat, next to Jodie. .
“Mate you’re in my seat.” Matt said civilly. .
“Does this seat have your bloody name on it? No… I can’t see it… Can you Jodie?” .
“No I can’t. Matt, you can sit in Charlie’s seat, next to Gemma.” Jodie suggested. .
“FINE THEN I WILL!” Matt shouted. .
“Calm down Matt! It’s only a fucking seat!” Charlie argued.
“Piss off Charlie, you posh prick!” .
“Matt!! There is no need for that!” .
“Jodie, stay out of it… So Matt, do you have some kind of problem?” .
“Yeah my problem is that YOU are sitting in MY seat!” .
“Whoa, whoa, whoa mate. It’s only a seat!” James said, trying to keep the peace. .
“Fuck it. Fuck you all!” And with that Matt stormed out of the canteen, James followed suit. .
.
“Matt! Wait up! Look mate I feel your pain…”.
“Do you? Have you ever loved someone so much that you would do anything for them, even if it breaks your heart? No I didn’t think so. James I fucking love her, and she doesn’t know, and now she’s going with that arse.” .
“Do you want my opinion, even though I am not the best of people in this kind of situation? Tell her how you feel, the worse she can say is no, and hey, there are plenty of fish in the sea mate.” James said thoughtfully “Hey I am going to write that down, good lyrics… See I am a genius in the making…” Matt laughed; James was always the person who could make you laugh in any situation. .
“Nah mate, I’ll leave it. She’s obviously happy with Charlie; I would want to ruin anything for her.” .
“You sure Matt?” He nodded. “Alright, if that’s how you want it. Ok I hate to be rude but there are Jaffa cakes in there just screaming out my name.” .
“Ha-ha. Yeah sure on you go, I’m going for a ciggie, and then I will have a little think to myself.” .
.
James was just about to walk into the canteen when he was pulled back by someone.
“What the hell just happened back there? What the fuck is Matt playing at? What a complete arsehole!” .
“Jodie, if there is anyone being an arsehole it is you. You just can’t see it can you?”
“See what? James you are one fucking weirdo.” .
“Jodie, I am going to be in so much shit but its better that you know… Matt loves you ok… He has been mad about you since he met you.” .
“What?!” .
“You seem to be the only one who hasn’t noticed, and then you go and ask him to match-make for you, what a cow. How would you feel if you were in his shoes? Heartbroken. Look, I promised Matt I wouldn’t interfere so I’m off.” .
James walked into the canteen and left Jodie standing, gob smacked. Matt loved her? Surely James was joking… James wouldn’t joke about something like that.
.
.
“You’re just going to have to move on Matt. She doesn’t like you. She likes Charlie. Move on mate, move on.” Matt thought to himself. He took another draw from his fag. .
“You know it’s against school rules to smoke on the premises Mr Willis!” Matt turned around. What now? A detention? Big fucking deal. .
“Jodie?” .
“Wow. You’re acting as though you’ve never seen me. Matt what was that back there?!” Jodie asked. .
“I’m sorry Jode. Just in one of those moods. I didn’t mean to take it out on you lot.”
“Matt, why didn’t you tell me?” .
“Tell you what?” Matt asked. Jodie leaned in and kissed him. Matt couldn’t believe it! Matt pulled away. Even though he didn’t want to. .
“Jodie? What was that? What about Charlie?” Matt questioned. .
“That was a kiss and to fuck with Charlie! I’ve always liked you Matt! I always thought you liked someone else. You are very hard to read!” .
“You did?! But?! What?! Huh?! How did you know I like you if you didn’t before?”
“James.” She smiled, and then kissed Matt again. .
“What a mate! What a fucking mate!!” Matt thought as he locked lips with Jodie.
