Destiny's Child '00
TEEN PEOPLE Online chatted with Destiny's Child on May 12, 2000

HostTPZena: TEEN PEOPLE is so happy to welcome Destiny's Child to our live chat this evening! Their album, The Writing's On The Wall, just went *quintuple* platinum, and their hit singles are all over the place. We have Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland with us tonight -- hey girls!
Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland: Hey!

HostTPZena: I want to ask the first question... Beyonce, TEEN PEOPLE selected you as one of our 20 Teens That Will Change The World -- how did that feel?

Beyonce Knowles: I was very, very honored. Of any award we've ever won, that was one of the things that has been most important to me. I think that's a huge honor. It was so important to me because no one else in that group was a celebrity. I was chosen out of all celebrities at my age, and everyone did wonderful things like coming up with cures for diseases, doing things for their community -- just positive things.

HostTPZena: Lv2Dance20164 asks...

Question: What do you think about the press corps comparing you to TLC? Do you feel any competition towards them or are you just happy to be considered in the same league as TLC -- they've sold so many records. But we also want to have our category. We want people to be comparing themselves to us!

Question: Do your songs have anything to do with your feelings or experiences?

Beyonce Knowles: Our songs have everything to do with our experiences. We wrote our songs from experience. We went through a lot in the period from our first album to our second album. The second album showcased our maturity from young girls to young women.

Question: So do you girls ever miss being hometown girls?

Kelly Rowland: We're still from Houston girls, but we don't get a chance to go home a lot. But at the same time, we still have wonderful fans on the road, no matter what city we're in and they make us feel at home.

Question: What's your most embarrassing moment?

Beyonce Knowles: I've had quite a few. One time at a step show, the whole place was full of teens and it was about 2,000 and there was one stairwell in the middle. I was running down the steps and I fell down about 30 of them. I could not stop! I just fell fell fell fell fell. I was too embarrassed to get up. Every single person in there saw me. The funny thing is a friend of mine got this guy's number and was talking to him and he told her, "The funniest part of tonight was this girl falling down the steps!" not knowing she was my friend!

Kelly Rowland: I fell asleep on a date and I was snoring and drooling all over the guy's shoulder.

Question: What are your favorite shoes to wear to a party or on stage?

Beyonce Knowles: I like really small stilettos. They do hurt, but they look good. I only wear them on special occasions -- I don't wear them every day.

Kelly Rowland: Comfortable shoes!

Question: Beyonce, I've heard rumors about you and Sisqo...are they true? Did he see that thong thong thong thong thong?

Beyonce Knowles: No no no no no! No, Sisqo and I are friends. He's a very nice guy, but he's nothing more than a friend.

Question: At what age did you discover you wanted to sing and how did the people you care about react?

Kelly Rowland: It had to be when I was around 4 or 5 years old and I saw Whitney Houston on TV and I told my mama that I wanted sing and she's been supporting me ever since.

Beyonce Knowles: I was 4 and I sang at a talent show and I loved the feeling of being on stage, so I decided I wanted to be a singer.

Question: How do you deal with criticism? How do you relax?

Beyonce Knowles: It's hard dealing with criticism, but you have to be secure with yourself and love yourself and keep god in your life and be positive. If you have all of that, you won't let their criticism get you down. And to relax, I light candles and listen to Donny Hathaway.

Question: I heard that Destiny's Child broke up -- is it true?

Beyonce Knowles: No. Destiny's Child replaced LaTavia and LeToya with Farrah and Michelle and the shows look exactly the same.

Kelly Rowland: Even better!

Beyonce Knowles: The harmony is the same. Farrah and Michelle are beautiful, as well as the former members, so the image is the same. So nothing has changed -- the show must go on. And since the change, we have sold over 3 million records in addition to the 2 we sold before in only a three-month period of time.

Question: Do you guys have your very own website or are you planning on getting one? Your #1 fan, Kashayla Unis.
