1. Q.What does Islam mean?
A. The Arabic word Islam means submission or surrender to the will of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Anyone who submits to the will of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is called a Muslim.
2. Q.Who chose to call the religion Islam? A. Islam was not decided upon by any man. It was chosen by Almighty God Himself. Islam is not a new relgion; it is the one that was revealed to all the prophets (peace be upon them all).Also it is mentioned in the Glorious Qur'an:
"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." (Surah Al-Maa'idah 5:3)
3. Q.What do Muslims believe? A. Muslims believe in the one Almighty God, ABSOLUTELY no parners. We believe that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the final messenger. We believe in the Angels, the revealed Books, Day of Judgement, Hereafter, and all prophets (peace be upon them all).
4. Q.What is Halal? A. The Arabic word Halal means lawful. The opposite is Haram, which means unlawful.
5. Q.How does one become a Muslim? A. One can become a Muslim simply by stating, "La ilaha il Allah, Muhammad-ur-Rasool-Allah." This means that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. This statement does not need to be made with witnesses. It is your own personal committment, and is between you and God.
