1st Place Homo Sapien at Norfolk Human Show
-or- The Dreams of A Persian

Meg

I was out with my mom the other day. We were looking at the cats in PetSmart. Sometimes, I wonder about those little critters. What do they think about us? A free ride? Go to a comfortable, loving home where you can eat, drink, and sleep at leisure.

Don't you wish we had a deal like that? We usually do until we hit 18. Then it's college loans, credit cards, and getting your name in the paper if you get arrested. Pets don't get that. They get to have fun for the rest of their days.

Except for those animals that were born to breed. Like Persians and Dalmations... you know, all those lovely, adorable, furry, purebred pets. Then it's just like having an alien beaming you up and shoving you into a breeding colony. Or having your parents choose your marriage, but to a shag-happy person you absolutely despise .

I mean think about, it's so cruel and we do it so we can take them to shows and win prizes because they're "pretty." Imagine having to do that? I could see it all now . .

"And heres comes the lovely Persian leading her fair-haired, blue-eyed American Homo Sapien down the aisle!", calls the announcer,"She swings her hips just right for a 15-year-old! This one has quite a few more competitions to go before retiring next year to be bred out to other competitors!"

Could you imagine that? It would be horrible! It sure is a good thing this will always remain a dream of every animal on the planet . . . or will it?
