I have often wondered how people who have not travelled learn about the world. Not through news reports, or books, but the honesty of life. To travel is to see the world in its trueness. Dirty, gritty, and full of elegant wonders.
And yet, travelling the world cannot always make you aware of your own world. Your life has it's own hidden corners with shadows, and stairs to ascend and, unfortunately, decend. But do you light the path before you, and keep note of the hallsways from which you came? Or do you plunge forward, hoping someone will lead you?
I believe that we are influenced by those strange paths, gardens and pillars in our life. They create the landscape of who we |

become. But it is a dull journey if we allow ourselves to only take the guided tour, and avoid the uncharted exploration. If we only walk the safe garden with the smooth paved path, rather than venture off into the dark woods now and again. To say you have walked in the storm without protection and found the beauty that only you can see must surely be the greatest souvenier you could bring back home.
I have walked many times. I have looked in dark caves, and into beautiful waterfalls. And I've fallen from cliffs, and can say with pride I can see clearer in the dark, swim through rough waters, and live with the grime on my hands because of it.
What journeys have you taken? What have you learned about your life? |
