Please include the following notice in this weeks bulletin for the Kilteely/
Dromkeen GAA club.
" The highligh of last weeks action was the U-16 county hurling final
when
we took on Templeglantine in Kildimo last Sunday evening. Templeglantine
we hot favourites to win this one as they had beaten us already early
in the
competition but that was no deterant for our lads who took to
the field
with one thing in mind and that was to bring back the hurling title
which
many of our previous teams had failed to do. The game opened with great
temper with the sliotar travelling from end to end and hurleys being
broken
at a high caution. It was a point each before templeglantine scored
their
opening goal, the supporter dropped their heads in dismay and thought
the worst
was going to happen. It was not to be the worst as a long ball up the
field
to Brian O'Connell playing corner froward, pulled on it first time
and rattled
to the back of the net. We were level at 1-2 a peace heading in towards
half
time, Templeglantine managed a soft goal before the whistle for half
time.
We were a goal down and trying very hard, tempers flaired in the hot
of it all
and four players, two from either side got their marching orders to
the line.
The superior strength of Templeglantine showed in the second half when
they
added a goal and four points to our single goal. Naturaly enough we
were
disappointed to be beaten but we gave a great display of heart and
determination. Most of our team were U-15 of which two were under 12.
It was
a team performance though our older players showed the way, John Murphy
midfield, Daniel Keogh centre forward, David Ahern centre back, Shane
O'Dea full back showed strength up the middle of the field. We will
see
most of the lads again in the U-15 championship and if they play with
the same conviction they will be hard to beat. The team lined out as
follows, P. Redfern, L. O'Dwyer, S. O'Dea, D. Ahern, P. Murphy, D.
Ahern,
A. Murphy, J. Murphy, S. Smalle, J. Meehan, D. Keogh, C. Ahern, M.
McCarthy,
I. Maher, B. O'Connell, Noel English, A. Ryan, J Greene, G. Murphy.
Our junior B footballers were to play South Liberties last Sunday night
but the game was prosponed as no referee turnrd up to ref the match.
The game has yet to be fixed.
There will be U-21 hurling training this Friday night at 7:30.
Juvenille training on Saturday at 11 as usual."
Thank you.
Regards,
Eoin.
