Please include the following notice in the club notes section for the
Kilteely/Dromkeen GAA club.
"Our U-16 hurlers will contest the county final at the Gaelic grounds
this Sunday evening at 7pm. The club needs their victory, though they
face tough opposition against Templeglantine, the title is there for
us
we must be up for this game. All players to assemble in Kilteely at
5:45
Sunday evening.
Last Sunday morning a depleated U-16 football team were defeated by
St. Patricks. This knocks out of the cup competition and we will compete
in the county shield semi-final.
Juvenile training on Saturday morning at 11 as usual. The juvenile
club
enjoyed a great day out in Trabolgen last Saturday as they part took
in
the many activities that Trabolgen had to offer from swimming, absailing,
pitch n' putt, quad bikes aeroball, crazy golf to mention a few.
This was to be our year on the junior football front, but Caherconlish
had other ideas. We had progressed to two league finals and had done
well
in the county football league. It has been a long time since we were
so
prepared for the championship on paper. We were expecting a battle
from
Caherconlish but we expected to beat them. We were two points up at
half time
and playing badly we failed to put away our scores and our backs found
it
difficult to keep Caherconlish off the score board. We extended our
lead to
4 points twice in the second half but we never opened up, Caherconlish
kept the pressure on and it delivered a goal followed be by a
penalty
that put them two pionts up and that is the way it ended Kilteely/Dromkeen
1-6 Caherconlish 1-8.
Serious questions have to be asked of our players, we lacked the heart
and the
determination and appetite to beat Caherconlish. Looking back this
was reflected
in the lack of commitment at training and the unwillingness to push
it harder.
There were a lot of training sessions and games arranged there should
be no
excuses for not being prepaired for the championship this year. Words
can't
describe the mood in the dressing room after the game, but it was one
of silence
and disbelief. This should be a lesson that we should never forget
and it should
rally all people in the parish from players, mentors, officals and
supporters
to take pride in our teams and start back on winning ways it is time
to dig deep.
As a Cahherconlish player said after the game " Kilteely/Dromkeen needed
to win
that game but Caherconlish needed it more" and that was all it boiled
down to.
