Please include the following notice in this weeks county edition
of the Limerick leader for the kilteely/Dromkeen GAA club.
"Congragulations to our U-10 hurlers and footballers who had good
wins over Ballybricken in the past two weekends. The games proved
to be enjoyable and gave all the younger members of the club the
first opportunity to year the red Jersey.
Next Saturday morning at 11:00 3 of the U-21 All-Ireland winning team
will be in the field to carry out a training session for all
Juvenille members. This is a great opportunity for underage players
to meet and train with Limerick and Irelands greatest and best.
On Saturday evenibng our U-21s are out in the county 1/4 final of
the U-21 hurling championship hoping to put the disappointing defeat
behind them. If we perform to as expected we will be in there with
a
big chance.
There will be a club development course run over the comming weeks.
This coures will primilarly address what makes for a good club
and outlines the role of each and every club member. It will also
outline to dormant club members how they can get involved and how
their little contribution can make a big difference to the clubs
success. The coures is open to all club members and especially
non club members. Please contact Paddy O'Sullivan, Eibhear O'Dea,
John O'Dea or any of the club committee for details.
How 2 days and 2 games can change the face of a club, the weekend
just past saw the club competing in two finals, on saturday our
u-16 footballers played in the county U-16 football final against
Garryspillane and on Sunday our U-21 hurlers took on Caherline in
the U-21 hurling east final.
The final on Saturday was expected to be a close affair as both teams
drew earlier in the competition. On saturday that was not the case
as
we were beaten by a much stronger Garryspillane side. Our lads battled
hard though but they never geled as they ususlly do, and were trailing
for most of the game especially in the second half. We were 5 points
down at half time after conceeding a goal in the latter stages of the
first half. We were expecting a better second half as we are known
to
lift our game to the challange. It did not happen, our forwards were
finding it exceedingly difficult to keep posession and our backs coped
well to keep the scores to a minimum. We had some chances in the
secondhalf to get a goal, but most notably a might shot was stopped
by
their keeper. At the final whistle we were well beaten by a better
side.
Most of our lads are elibible to play again next year and are still
eligible for the U-15 compitition commencing shortly.
The team lined out as follows, P. Redfern, A. Ryan, D. Bolger, N. keogh,
A. Murphy, A. Chevan, P. Murphy, I. Maher, D. Ahern, J. Murphy, S.
Smalle,
K. McCarthy, D. Keogh, C. Ahern, M. McCarthy, Introduced T. Hennessy,
S. O'Dea,
B. O'Connell.
We were hoping to bring home the U-21 cup on Sunday though Caherline
were
strong favourites to win this one we knew that we were just as good.
It
was a very exciting game for most of the 60 minutes in wet and slippery
conditions. We started well opening the score with a point followed
by
the better exchanges. A dead cert goal was stoped 3 feet short of the
line
when the sliotar did not emerge from a lake of water in the small rectangle.
After that Caherline were on the attack and we conceed two goals in
the first
half. At the interval we were 2 points down, in a score of Kilteely/Dromkeen
0-6 Caherline 2-2, the mood was good and we were confident that we
would
make it back in the second half. We restarted well though not scoring
before Caherline stole a third goal, we brought their lead back to
4 points
and were throwing great shapes at making a strong comeback. John Ryan,
Michael
Smalle and Kieran Muphy in the centre back line were making great headway
in
keeping Caherline out, but in the wet conditions our forwards found
it difficult
to register any scores. Caherline ended with the cup in a score of
5-5 to 0-9.
All is not losted, though we were beaten we have learned a lot from
this game,
and will be aiming to win the county quarter final and get one step
closer to
a title. For the momnet it is back to the training field on friday
night at
6:30pm in an effort to lift out spirits for that game.
