IV. Propulsion:
- 3 x Allison BRT-3 rocket thrusters. Two of these thrusters are mounted in
the back and one in the rear waist; maximum rated output 55 kN each.
- 14 x Nakajima NBS-5 high-thrust vernier thrusters located on the heels (4),
calves (2), forward waist (2), chest (2) and on the shoulders (4).
- Powerplant: SCE-2P miniature Protoculture-cell energizer.
- Fuel Capacity:
- 6 standard canisters of Protoculture.
V. Performance:
- Level speed: 128 kph (running)
- Maximum jumping distance: 75 m (Terra normalized)
- Max level speed (sea level): 120 kph
- Unboosted service ceiling: 200 m
- Protoculture supply (internal): 240 hours operational use
VI. Electronics:
Radar tracking:
- Westinghouse TPG-144 X-band pulse-doppler phased array radar with
battlefield surveillance mode.
Optical tracking:
- Phillips AllView II multi-band digital spherical camera system, for medium
range all attitude infra-red imaging, optical and ultra-violet band detection
and tracking.
- Thomson LT-8 multi-frequency laser ranger and designator.
Tactical Electronic Warfare System (TEWS):
- Selenia GroundWarrior Mk. 9 active/passive sensor jammers
VII. Armament:
Internal:
- 2 x MRL-9 Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher Systems capable of
launching 3 Tarantula grenades above each shoulder blade. The launcher
projects from its armored casing towards the rear of the battloid exposing
the ready grenades, which fire vertically. The launch tubes contain two
reloads each for a total of 9 grenades per launcher
Gun units:
- 1 x RRG EP-13 80mm three barreled particle gun pod; firing
170 rounds per minute in full automatic mode, also capable of firing all three
barrels simultaneously in semiautomatic mode at approximately one shot per
second. Cannon fires 8.2 MJ pulses per barrel in each mode. One spare magazine
is carried in the thruster backpack.
- or 1 x Mauser EU-11 28mm laser gun pod; firing
110 rounds per minute in full automatic mode, or once per trigger activation
in semiautomatic mode. Cannon fires 12.5 MJ pulses in each mode.
- or 1 x Cadillac-Gage EP-85 112mm single barreled particle gun
pod; firing 225 pulses per minute in full automatic mode, or once per
trigger activation in semiautomatic mode. Cannon fires 12.5 MJ pulses in
each mode. One spare magazine is carried in the thruster backpack.
Missiles:
- 2 x C-15A carapace missile system attached to the forearms. This
system consists of a single SRAAM launch tube with one missile ready to
launch and a magazine with capacity for a single missile.
Miscellaneous:
- 1 x CVR-3M/F personal armor in the pilot's cargo compartment.
- One current-issue weapon of the pilot's choice and a two-week supply of
ammunition.
- 1 x ASK-09 aviator survival kit in the pilot's cargo compartment.
VIII. Armor:
The armor on the Salamander is the current state-of-the-art development
in low-mass composite-materials Chobham plating that became the
standard for all Terran mecha after its application to the VQ-6A Vandal. Aside
from the respectable protection provided against projectiles, missiles, and
other kinetic weapons, this armor is also resistant to plasma globes
(annihilation discs), lasers, and to a lesser extent, particle guns, owing to
the fact that the armor can flake off and evaporate in layers under fire from
such high-energy weapons, taking much of the weapon's energy and converting it
into the latent heat of sublimation in the armor.
The armor stops all small arms fire, heavy infantry weapons fire,
and light mecha-mounted weaponry; and provides good
resistance to medium mecha-mounted weaponry, such as the Valkyrie's
55mm APFSDS round. The arm shields have a significantly more durable armor
cross-section; providing good resistance to medium mecha-mounted weaponry and
poor resistance to heavy mecha-mounted weaponry, such as the VHT-2's 120mm
shell. The shins and joints are reinforced to withstand impact from a moving
vehicle.
The Salamander provides full protection from nuclear,
biological, and chemical hazards, using a fully-sealed cockpit module activated
by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare
conditions are anticipated. The cockpit module is also armored and gives the
Monocle the option of operating off-planet on the moon or elsewhere in the
system. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere purification
for one week maximum on Earth and 96 hours in a hostile environment such as the
moon or Mars.
