*Tim Screamfeeder*
I spotted Tim and Kelly Screamfeeder side-stage watching Violetine, and arranged to meet Tim afterwards in their tent @ the Big Top for a chat
Have you got any new material recorded yet...?
It’s a big story right, we’ve got about 25 new songs ready to record and we’re having a thing at the moment where we’re signing to this new record label in America, and we’re going to be signing direct to them, they’re called Timebomb, and we’re signing this big deal with them and Shock are still going to be involved to some extent over here but like there’s this big three way kind of tussle going on...It’s really complicated, a bit ugly and sort of very um.... just very hard to work out ... we’re getting to the end of working it out and we’re about to sign the deal and when we do sign it, they’ll give us some money to record out next album...so hopefully a couple of months away...its just taken so long.
What sort of influences do you have, what have you been listening to?
Lately? Have you heard of a band called ‘that dog”? br-yeah  Well I listen to them a lot, they’re really good....I listen to a bit of Stereolab, some Rancid...mostly I’ve been listening to real singy stuff, real good vocal stuff... just a lot of singy melody stuff, you know....
Do you have any favourite telly shows?
Dr Katz, of course...and the Fast Show, which is on after it.... That’s my two shows, that’s all I watch really, yeah...
Do you like any cartoons? Like manga or anything?
Ahhh, I’ve watched them a couple of times but I can’t really get into it.
    Your favourite Australian bands?
Ohh...lets see...I don’t think I have one band but I like You Am I, I like SFK, I like Violetine... umm there’s one band that I really like but I can’t think who it is...I like 2 Litre Dolby, I like quite a few bands but I just can’t think of them right now.
Do you have a favourite gig that you’ve played?
Oh god...umm.. That’s a pretty hard question.. not this one just gone but the previous Homebake in January.. we played and midway through the set it started raining really heavily and everyone just stayed there and watched and it was really good...That’s the gig that springs to mind, there’s been other good ones but that was really good.
Do you prefer playing festivals or...??
The thing about festivals is that you’ve usually got a bit of a barrier between you and the crowd so... we’re so used to playing small gigs where the people are right there that there’s that intimacy... when you play festivals often you feel like yr alone on the stage and there’s no one there even though there’s hundreds of people there... but it makes it kind of.. somehow makes that spark hard to get, you know? It’s like if you play the whole gig and you can’t get that spark then the gig’s crap, even though there’s thousands of people there... But some festival gigs are good and they work really well...
Do you have any favourite zines?
Yeah, I have, shit. There used to be a zine out of Sydney called The Skills Of Defensive Driving
br- yeah, Ben Life’s zine. T- Yeah, that zine was excellent, and ... there’s a couple that a friend of mine in Adelaide does. One’s called Purple Monkey Dishwasher, and one’s called Long Gone Loser, and they’re really good. There’s just so many, you know... I get a couple every month in the mail, three or four, and I just put them on my shelf...
Do you have any favourite movies?
Yes I do. I like The Professional, I like Until The End of the World- which is a great film. I liked all the films by that English guy that did Secrets and Lies...
Do you have a favourite holiday destination?
I liked Thailand. I’ve only been there once, but it’s very nice, yeah. Out of all the places I’ve been to that’s probably the best.
Has Screamfeeder got ambitions to crack the US market or anything?
Ahh...not so directly, but you know when you sit down and think about it, a band like us especially, we realise that we can’t play in Australia all our lives. We’ve been doing it for about the last five years, playing the Annandale, the Punters Club and all these places and we’re going nowhere; sort of thing? I don’t know what it is, whether it’s us, or the record label, or the audience or what, but for some reason we can’t get to that big next level where like all the bigger bands are...It’s probably a combination of all three but we sort of realise that we need to get out of the country and try and get into a wider audience of people, you know?
How would you Kill the Cod?
Are you guys into fishing or anything like that? [ I (br) explain my veganism and Goodies reference] Well I think I’d immerse it in a big fish tank full of vodka, that would kill it gently... It would just inhale itself to death and it would love every second of it. That would be the most humane way, I think.
