When’s
your new album coming out?
Our new album
comes out on the 31st May and its called Delta City Sights.
Any
new directions?
It’s hard
to say, in our eyes, in our heads, it’s really different... but you know,
it’s still pretty much the same kind of thing but it’s just evolved to
what we think is different. Whether we think it’s better or not, I don’t
know.
Are
there more keyboards?
Heaps of keyboards!
We so love this album! You know, you probably say that every time, but
to us it’s so obviously... I love it!
What
are the influences? What have you been listening to?
I don’t know
if there are that many actual influences... You know, people ask us our
influences and I think the stuff we listen to doesn’t necessarily effect
how it sounds... But I can tell you what we’re listening to... lots of
PJ Harvey and Pete Meiser and Elliot Smith and a lot of old stuff at the
moment, listening to a lot of The Cars... Yeah, but you know at the time
when Matt was writing it, his favourite band is like Rocket From The Crypt.

What
do you think are the best and worst Pollyanna songs?
Lemon Suck-
worst. Yeah, no, it’s a really good song; it’s a really well written pop
song... But you just get sick of... of...people- I was trying to think
of a nice word- who come to the shows still after all these years and the
only song they want to hear is Lemon Suck. And I just think, well, then
you know you shouldn’t be here... It’s still a good song, I’m not saying
Matt wrote a shit song, ‘cause you know... But we just got so sick of playing
it; it’s so cheesy. We got so sick of playing it that we stopped almost
immediately.
Dane- And
your favourite?
I don’t know,
that’s really hard, there’s a lot. There’s Brittle Then Broken, I really
like Hermit, and I like Feeding Circle; which is one of the new ones as
well. Piston! I really love Piston.

Do you like playing the keyboards now?
Yeah, heaps.
I do one-finger things I’m really shit. But it’s heaps of fun.
What’s
the best thing you’ve gotten free ‘cause you’re in a band?
I haven’t
gotten anything for free!! No, I have, but I’m trying to think what was
good. I got a free pair of sneakers, that’s pretty daggy. This girl came
up to me @ Offshore and gave me this little toy cicada, cikada... whatever...
Which is really cool ‘cause there’s a song on our new album called ‘Cicada
Sounds’. That was probably the coolest thing anything ever gave me. I thought
that was pretty nice. And a girl today @ the Dogbite festival gave me this
pen that she goes to sign stuff with and it’s so beautiful. It’s this really
glittery blue, and I’m like ‘That’s such a nice pen’, and she gave it to
me. I didn’t ask! She just came up later and went ‘I want to give you this’.
I’m like “NOO! It’s your favourite pen!!”. Sorry.
Do
you read many zines?
No, not really.
I mean if people come up and give them to us we read them and that...
Do
you have any favourite ones?
The only one’s
I read all the time are like the Fauves one... br-
Shred! And the Moler one- Moleria.
What’s
your all time favourite telly show?
Battlestar
Galactica. NO!! Ohmygod. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I can’t believe I said
Battlestar Galactica. I am OBSESSED with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like
we’re on tour and I’m ringing people up. Four people at a time are taping
it for me to make sure I get it... It is...I am obsessed. The boys are
just like “Shut up! You’re not a slayer!”.
So
are you a fan of Sarah Michelle Geller? (with some prompting)
Yeah. I mean
definately she’s a better Buffy than the Kirsty, you know, off the movie
[with Luke Perry]... but umm.. Angel in the new series... Last week I saw
it up in Ballina and she killed him... but no no no, he can’t be dead because
b- he’s a vampire?! Oh yeah, but he goes into the vortex of hell...
but in America Buffy’s finished. They have a spin-off show with Angel and
Cordelia. So he can’t be dead. I’m hanging out to make sure he’s not. I
can’t believe that’s not the first thing that came into my head... ‘cause
I’ve got tapes in my bag of it that people have taped for me...
How
do you Kill the Cod?
With a stake,
definitely. That’s why I took up kickboxing! No seriously, I’m telling
my kicking teacher, ‘You know I’m doing this because I am the chosen one,
you just haven’t told me yet’. And he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?!’
and I’m like ‘You’re going to tell me after a couple of weeks that I’m
a natural and that you didn’t know whether to tell me, but I am the chosen
one, and I am the slayer, and you are my watcher’. And he’s just like-
‘Leave my class now’. Scary.
How
does Matt- Pollyanna Kill the Cod?
I would play
it Celine Dion music for about an hour.
